I have a CDP II Pro Carry that I am looking to finish in all one color. I would use this as my CCW about 50% of the time. Any suggestions on who or what to go with. Any before and after pics would be great. The original finish is toast and want to "return her to glory" so to speak.

here's what a rookie (me) did to my Rock

before

after

I used Laure's Duracoat.
Once i got everything set up right (IE. airbrush, pressure, distance and material thinned enough) everything went pretty smooth and was a piece of cake

Comes in just about every color you could imagine.
I chose the semi gloss HK black and mixed a bit of their gun blue color as well.
(just my personal preferance)

Don't know how well the finish will hold up to holster wear, though.
I refinished it for the "fun factor"

in my best Elvis voice,
Thank you, thank you vury much :D

honestly, once adjustments were made, the stuff was really easy to work with and fairly idiot proof.

Hi

There are a couple of ways to finish a pistol. Paint like stuff is generally something you can do yourself. Bluing and plating work a lot better with some investment in gear.

No matter what you do for a finish, it's only going to be as good as the metal under the finish. A good finish shows up all kinds of little problems :scared: :scared:

I really like the idea of the the hard chrome that I viewed in the link from the post above. The Tripp job looks outstanding. What application can applied to the alluminum frame of my CDP. Sorry to be such a rookie, I have only worked with HK and Beretta and never done much work to my pistols other than put rounds down range.

Hi

On an aluminum frame you have two basic options:

1) some kind of paint

2) anodize

There are ways to put chrome on aluminum, but you don't want to do it. The aluminum is softer than chrome. As the aluminum flexes, the chrome will crack.

In terms of aftermarket, professional finishes, by far the best bang for the buck is Walter Birdsong's Black T. It comes on the Springfield Professional and many others. He also coats the SEAL and Det guns, Navy deck guns and various autos for other Gvt agencies. The FBI wont touch a gun without it. $150.
