Hey guys, I have a quick question. I would like to replace the GI front sight on my Springfield GI with a bigger combat sight. I know that the tenon size is medium on the slide and I could shave down the tenon on a new sight. What about opening up the hole on the slide itself to make the sight post more durable? I apologize if this has been discussed to death already.

While it could be done, it's much easier to make the sight tenon smaller. Also, the general rule of gunsmithing is to modify the cheaper part.

Understood. The only reason I asked was because I was concerned about the strength of the sight if I went from the small GI blade to a larger combat sight. I don't want it to snag and break off, ya know?

Hi
The tenon is pretty strong. The normal failure is a poor swage. It's rare to see the tenon break. When it does break often the sight has been used for hammering on something (or someone ...).
