Serial Number Look-up?

Hello Gentlemen,

Years ago when I was into US military weapons,there was an on-line database(springfield research service) where you could lookk up serial numbers and sometimes find a match. The original links are now disabled. Does the service even exist anymore? I have Clawson's 3rd edition,but I'm hoping for something more specific. My 1911's number is 253,967(she is an AA rebuild).
