Hello All,
After getting bitten by the USGI bug (and the 1911 bug in general...) about a year ago, I finally I finally picked up my first USGI pistol. A 1944 Remington Rand. It was sold as being refinished ("touched up" he said) with correct parts, and it looks good. It also came with a 1944 Milwaukee Leather holster, belt, duel mag pouch, and three magazines (one unmarked with GI feed lips, two marked Colt 45 Auto with hybrid lips and a weld seam down the back.) It was priced about like a new Colt. Looked good, so I bought it. I replaced all of the springs with factory Colt parts, then I took it to the range last night and fired 100 rounds. The first 50 rounds were Speer Lawman 230 TMJ, and then 50 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 230 JHP. I had two failures to eject (case stuck longways in the ejection port) with the Lawman, but the Gold Dots fed flawlessly.

And it was accurate too! The slide rattles a slight bit, but I was able to keep twenty rounds in a 2"-3" circle at about 7 yards. And it was dead center.

I am happy! I have a few pics for now. I just bought a new camera tonight, and am still learning it. So I would like to know a little more about this pistol, and if the parts are really "correct". If you would like any specific pictures, let me know and I will do my best. (will detail strip and photo if need be) More tomorrow in the daylight.

Thanks!

Basedon the photos and info you provided, mags are not correct. Correct mags would be full blued and marked on the top of the toe with an L,R or S. Some G marked General Shaver mags might have been furnished with some Remington Rand pistols, BUT General Shaver never had a contract to produce magazines for new pistols. Their contract was for Field Service Replacement mags only.
The slide and slide stop are mis-matched from other pistols. They are not original to each other, nor to the frame. More photos of more details might reveal more.

Thanks! I figured the slide was from another pistol. When I got it, it was just slatherd in cosmoline. (the slide) Most on the outside was wiped off, but internally it was covered. Firing pin channel, extractor channel, were just dripping. You can still see some around the rear sight. I got bored scrubbing... the frame was devoid of all lube or cosmoline...

The slide wear didn't match the frame wear either. The parts, to me anyway, seem era correct. Do you have any idea what type of pistol the slide stop came from? When I stripped it, I noticed the trigger bow had no relief cut for the sear. Does this make it earlier than the frame? The only rust was on the mainspring housing. I had a heck of a time changing the mainspring. The pin was rusted in. Leads me to believe it may be from another pistol.

I fully bought this as a shooter, but would like to know as much about it as possible. If there are any specific pics you would need to see, let me know, I'll try my best,

Thanks!
