I'm looking at an advertized Remington Rand but the serial # 7791192xxx indicates it is a 1942,43 colt. Also there is a stamp on the right side after the serial # " F1076 " what is it ?

7,791,192,xxx would be incorrect for an original serial number, that's almost 8 billion. Does the ad contain pictures?

If that's the serial number stamped on the frame, it's bogus. The last serial number RRand built was 2,465,139 in 1945. Additionaly Colt's serial numbers in 1942 were 756,734 to 861,199 and 1943 were 862,000 to 1,154,999.

Where exactly on the pistol are these numbers located? Frame? Slide? Barrel?
I suspect there is some confusion here.

The owner says the numbers are on the barrel below the slide. The stamped number in question is on the right hand side above the trigger where the serial number is supose to be.

Why don't you show us the picture you are looking at? The number you XX out at the end is NOT a serial number. There is no point in XXing it out.
The F 1076 is probably the serial number, which is not an original serial number for any USGI M1911 or M1911A1.
If it is a USGI pistol that has had it's number obliterated and has a new number...I'd suggest not buying it. It's just 3 lbs. of excess baggage you don't need IMO.

I'm looking at a S&W chrome lined 1911 barrel right now and its prod number is 7791193, definitely a barrel. ;)
