I'm new to this forum. You guys have alot of info here. I just purchased a new series 70 Colt and would like to find out about putting a laser site of some type on it. What do you all recommend? TIA

Just my opinion, but lasers are gimmicks. The best is probably the Crimson Trace unit, but in general you actually waste more precious time trying to chase that little red dot around than if you just used your sights and a good flashlight. This is a major reason why most LEO's have abandoned lasers and have begun using flashlights mounted to tactical rails on their handguns.

I agree with dsk. I have a set of crimson trace for my CCO. It's very disconcerting to watch how much that dot moves around. You end up jerking the trigger as the dot passes where you want to hit. Also, after each shot the dot completely disappears (recoils off of target) and like dsk said you waste to much time trying to find it, get it onto target and then trying to calm down to get it from moving around so much. I found, I could shoot tighter groups more consistantly and quicker by just using the front sight technique. Take the $300 bucks you would spend on a laser and get a good set of tritium Novaks or whatever custom brand you like. Plus, you'll still probably have a few bucks left over for some practice ammo! Practice will always out shoot gimmicks!

Edited to add: Welcome and nice puchase!

Thanks for the information guys. It looks like I won't be buying one after all. A friend of mine bought one for a XSE Colt and the mount seems very second rate. There isn't a way to properly attach it to the trigger guard. Thanks again.

A Series 70 Colt (even the new production) and a laser sight do not match! Keep it original, after all that's why you paid the big bucks it costs.

And I agree, laser sights are gimmicks. Unless you are a SWAT cop, or something similar, in which case someone else would decide what gun you have and if it will have a laser of red dot, or a phaser.
