All: I am asking for opinions and recommendations on the best rimfire ammunition to use in my Colt .22 Conversion Unit. I recently acquired the device and seek the forum members’ recommendations from experience on what they found to be the optimal brand of ammo to use. The principle criticism I hear about these devices is that bullet shavings and powder residue can quickly lead to jamming of the floating chamber, sometimes in as few as twenty-five rounds or so. I appreciate any advice, tips or suggestions you may have. Thank you…

In a few words CCI Stingers or any other hi-power ammo.

If it's a Colt Ace conversion(floating chamber) like the one I had, I would go with Remington Golden(plated) bullets. No wax lube to foul the floating chamber. That's worked best in mine.
Yup. Use copper plated bullets, preferably high-speeds. You can get several boxes through the gun without cleaning versus 20 or so bare lead bullets.

Widow’s Son,
I just bought a Colt .22 conversion unit off of EBay. With no cleaning or lube I shot 100 rounds of Winchester Super X high velocity. These are the plated bullets. No problems. Then fired 50 rounds of Federal high velocity with lead bullets as that was all I had. Total of 150 rounds with no problems. Even so, the advice you received above is sound. Use high velocity copper clad rather than lead if possible. Since conversion units can be individualistic and what works well in one may not work well in another buy about five boxes of different brands and try each. The one that is the most accurate and reliable in your unit is the one to use. Hope you enjoy your unit as much as I am enjoying mine.

Thank you all. I will try a few boxes of the brands you each suggested.

Well, I can see that the new ammo can make a difference, I had once a .22 conversion in a Systema 1927 and was shooting leaded ammo, it took 50 rounds to jam the floating chamber so tight that I had to take to a gunsmith. He used the oven to melt the lead and wax compound that that chamber was full off.
