Hello all,

I have two early Colt DA revolvers, and after lurking around this forum for a while, have decided to make the jump for a automatic. I purchased a 1991 Gov. Model used from a local dealer. It has a black park. finish. I would like to make two modifications. I am looking to add a ambi. thumb safety (left handed) and a drop in btgs from Wilson.

Now for the question, would you suggest (given that it has a park. finish) going with blued parts or stainless? I understand that it is a matter of personal taste but am curious what is the general opinion is.

Thanks

Tom

Blue is traditional and would blend in pretty well with black. On the other hand, stainless is less apt to scratch or rust. Mixing is getting rather common - even in factory products. A simple way to judge appearance is to wander through old posts here and look at various pistols pictured. Sooner or later, you will see every possible combination of fit and finish. Enjoy the choice.

I am a fan of the what's become called the "retro look"; a gun with few of the modern features long believed to be absolutely necessary. One of the first modern features that denoted a "real combat pistol", back in the '70s, was an ambi safety. The only one on the market was the Swenson, and it was available only in stainless. So, lots of the cool combat guns from that era had blued finishes with stainless ambis. The Wilson ambi is a ringer for the old Swenson, so you see where I'm going with this?
I backdated my early '80s Commander, with a stubbly little grip safety, polished blue small parts, a stainless Wilson ambi, and when I squint, I can see 1973.

I'd go with blued parts...

I vote for blued.

I really dislike blued or Parkerized pistols with bling bling fire controls.

I would also vote for blue and save the original parts

I am not a two tone fan either. I vote for blue.

I like the matching blue controls, BUT i do really like blue guns with stainless triggers (like YoBo does sometimes). I also think it looks slick when SS bushings are used. I think you can get away with using one or two SS parts, personally, without it looking to "blingy", but personally i wouldn't do that with the ambi or BTGS.
