View Full Version : What would be your dream Colt?

If money were no object and you could find your dream Colt, what would it be? It could be a military gun of any vintage through a full blown custom created by the craftsman of your choice. It could be very interesting to see what people would like to have if any and all limitations were lifted.

I would like to have a hard chrome version of a Special Combat Government with Novak sights. It would not have the mag well extension but would have a beautiful magwell bevel. It would have a perfect slide to frame fit and barrel lock-up. Flawless fit and finish and total reliability. .45 caliber of course. The other features would be fine as they now come from Colt's.

I know that this is not too far out of the box, but I am pretty conservative any way.

I hope that everyone enjoys getting to dream a little. Maybe someone will actually get to own their dream gun. If you already have it, you can share that too along with a picture.

With kind regards,

Chuck

I have my eye's on getting a special combat, That would have to be my dream Colt! I also would like a Gunsite, maybe in time! On the other hand I think Colt is really missing the boat by not reissuing the delta elite, there seems to be alot of people wanting this gun!!!! :)

Special combat, both hardchrome and blue/nickel. SAA's in blue and nickel, in .45 and .357. Actually, those 4 are my wish list.

Hmm...

Probably a Commander length Gunsite pistol w/ a titanium frame in .38 Super. Oh, and a fire blued finish on the slide and some type of anodizing that would match the awesome blue for the frame (hey, it's a dream right?) :D

I just received mine, a Colt Series 80 Officer's Model, Novak adjustable night sights, hardchrome finish. Haven't shot it yet, but considering it came from D&L Sports (Dave Lauck), it should shoot straight as a pipe. I do like the full sized pistols, I have had a stainless 80 Commander, but I really like the Officer's Model. I already have a Govt Model, and the Officer's rounds out the stable.

Two possibilities:

If limited to a single gun (which I understand is the parameter), my choice would be a Series 70 Commander, blued, in NIB condition, all stock.

OR

A matched pair of WW1 and WW2 replicas, with matching serial numbers.

I'll take an Armand Swenson Colt series 70 era combat commander full trick job. Squard trigger guard, checkering, barrel positioner, S&W k sights, hard chrome finish, the whole nine yards. I'll tell ya what, any body got some good pictures of one of these? I'll just drool over those?

Let's see..... It would have to be based on a blue series 70 lightwt. Commander, that's my favorite carry gun. With the aluminum frame, I could probably not have it fully engraved, but would at least like the slide engraved and hard chrome the frame. I would retain the stock recoil spring set up, slide stop and and thumb safety (I really don't care for all of these extended thumb safetys) and I have to have a short trigger. I love the looks of the series 70 gov't hammers so it would have to have that and the grip safety that goes with it. Top it off with trijicons or Wilsons night sights and a trigger job and I'd be happy! Oh yes, how about a set of those beautiful thin grips! Wow, sounds just like a gun I put together 20 years ago (except for the engraved part) then gave to my son when he got out of the navy! Hummm..... Maybe.......

I'd love to see Colt come out with a series 70 Commander. I'd want a blued one, Novak night sites, long trigger, beveled mag well, stainless barrel. That would do it for me.

Thanks for all the participation folks. Second choices are also allowed. These would be some very nice Colt's. I am sure that there will be several more.

With kind regards,

Hey Black Talon,
I just happen to have one of those, made in 1957. About 98% condition, only someone changed the grips, put on later colt walnut grips with gold Colt medallions. Wish I had a pair of the old plastic ones. Oh well, I'll keep looking and find a pair, I have seen some, but they weren't nice enough to match the gun. If I had a camera I would post a picture of it.

My dream Colt would be an early 50's Lightweight Commander in 38 super, would prefer 98% condition, not NIB, so I could shoot it without hurting it. I had one years ago, but it was a little rough when I got it. I had the slide cut for S&W sights and reblued and bead blasted the remaining 50% anodizing off the frame. Made it look real nice, but not original. Swapped it on a 2 1/2 inch Python about 1980.

I want the 1911's from the movie "Last man standing". They were more accurate than my custom 1911's and never ran out of bullets! :D

My dream Colt would be an older model national match.......if was to be a new gun, it would be one that worked correctly out of the box and lived up to the name Colt.

I think the above firearm just purchased will be very nice. First, I will make certain everything is working fine on the internals (no MIM parts) and everything is tight, make sure a good sear is installed, thumb and grip safeties are actually safe with no sear movement and all the 80 Series parts work and function properly. C&S has a nice Series 80 titanium nitride kit that really slicks up the action. Make sure all springs are Wolff and balanced and will give it a good trigger job, peen the frame and lap the slide if loose and hand checker the frame. Don't know if this comes with some type of "plastic" MSH since it comes from Colt's Custom Shop but if it does will throw that puppy at a tree and put a nice Ed Brown 30 lpi on it. Then send it off to Robar for NP3 and Roguard. This would be a nice tactical shooter.

if i was limited to pistols, i think i would like to have Sgt.York's 1911, fully doccumented of course. if that is not available, i guess a nib wwi era colt 1911, (not the repro).
now, if we open up the field a little, i would really like to have a full-auto m4 carbine, the real one.

An enhanced Combat Elite gone over with a fine tooth comb and in 98% condition so I could shoot it all day long.

Zaskar24,

Good choice. The Enhanced Combat Elite is one of my all time favorite Colt's. I had one that I purchased new and like a stupid idiot, I sold it. They are sweet. When I was getting my CC Permit, I shot next to a fellow with a then new Kimber Custom. To say that I out shot him would be an understatement:D I am not the best shot. The Combat Elite was and is one sweet pistol.

GCT00427,

Thank you, what really got me looking at the Combat Elite was XavierBreath's beauty. I am now going to have to start saving up my pennies and scour the local gun shows this fall to see what I can find.

Finally! Full size slide mated to an officers size frame. Unfortunately, Colt Officers frame's dust cover is short and will have a gap when a 5" slide is mated on it. So the frame I had my gunsmith get is a Caspian carbon steel frame. He fitted a brand new 1991A1 slide, 5" SS Colt NM barrel, Heinie black rear sight, tritium front site, dehorned, Wilson Combat Ultralight hammer, Wilson Combat high ride grip safety, etc. I'm new to this forum and don't know how to attach a picture.

Read the FAQ section of this site (there is a link near the top, in one of the blue navigation bars, right above the Sponsors Panel). Read it and post your pics as soon as possible, that's an interesting combination.

I have my dream colt. A Goverment model US Army form april 1917. Clean and tight it was my grandfathers service pistol who had a heart attack in france in 1918. I rarely shoot it. I also love my electroplated nickle series 70 government model MK IV. Its from 1973 and I am the only person to have fired it. It's trigger is a lot harder to squeeze than the old colt. A lot of my friends can't get over how nice the old colt feels. I can't either and have been thinking about a WW1 re-issue.

This is my second choice since this thread started months ago. It is funny, at least to me, how tastes vary and silly "I want one of these" thoughts can be. Right now today I have been thinking about a custom Officers Model, all tricked out with Novak's, upswept beavertail, skeletonized hammer, slim grips, maximum bevel job, and on and on and on. Oh yeah, in .357 Sig caliber.
