View Full Version : CCI .45 shot cartridges in a series 70 ?
Anybody ever shoot any of these in a series 70 gun? If so, how did they feed and eject? What brand of magazine did you use? Any comments on how effective you think they'ld be?

I have tried some, some years ago. In a properly tuned 1911 they will feed and fire fine, but due to the cartridge shape, don't expect too much.

I too tried some several years ago in a couple of assembled 1911's I had at the time. I tried the CCI's and Remington shot ctgs. As I remember one of them fed and functioned fine with a little lighter recoil spring, but the other had to be cycled through by hand. I believe it was the CCI's that would cycle, because of their longer casing held more shot and gave more recoil impulse. The CCI seemed to hold a better pattern and longer range (although we are talking several feet here, not yards!) with their #9 shot, but at closer range (5 or 6 feet) the pattern produced by the Remingtons #12 shot was impressive. Either would be effective on a snake or rat at 5 or 6 feet but probably not much farther. I tried some on birds at 15 feet and they just flew off! 44 Man
Anybody ever try making these with the RCBS forming dies and .308 brass? Do these work?

I never tried them, but have read the articles. They should work fine as you end up with a ctg almost identical to the CCI's. I do remember now, the CCI's functioned thru but the Remingtons did not. If you thought you were going to do this a lot, I would definately try the RCBS system, otherwise just buy the CCI's. 44 Man

About a year ago, i gave making these a try - cut open a shotgun shell, got the shot out, put in powder, cotton, shot, then sealed the mouth with candle drippings. Would not cycle the action, but I now use the same thing in 45 Auto rim. Works great, and don't have to worry about ejecting.

last weekend we had a snake incident in the garden. after going thru the abbott and costello routine of finding my daughters 20ga and using it i stopped by the local gunshop and picked up a box of 10. i had used it in a 9 mm before and it looked a little weak.
did some hard ball shooting today with llama minimax and hardball. after that i tried a couple of these at about 25 ft and another at about 12ft. i still have the target and will take sa pic and post tommow. saw no apparent damage to the 3.5" barrel.
