I was cleaning my 1967 Colt LW Commander and I noticed that the floor of the extractor bore in the slide is exposed. All of my other 1911s, including a 2002 LW Commander, have a closed extractor bore.

It's of no consequence, but it made me wonder if there is a purpose, or a reason. Why is it exposed on the old Commander?

My '73 Combat Commander has the same cuts. It is my understanding that they are lightening cuts. Don't know the reason for them.

I would play with the search function on this sight, as I think this whole thing has been discussed before.

Hi

We have had a couple of threads recently on the lightening cuts in slides on late 60's and early 70's Colts. The bottom line is that Colt did indeed do the cuts on purpose.

Yep, Colt made the cuts......can't remember why, will have to research that one to refresh my memory.
