Are there drop in replacement sites for RIA? I'm really disappointed in the sites. heck I can barely see the front sight.
If drop ins aren't available what should I do? What are reasonably priced options?
Thanks

I believe the front sight on the RIA has a narrow tennon similar to the old GI 1911 Govenment Model. I put a set of LPA adjustable sights on my gi slide (3 dot) and they work great. You should be able to order them thru brownell's. You'd have to have a gunsmith install them unless you know what you are doing.

I had my smith install some Kings Hardball three dot sights on my RIA 45. I think the sights were 35.00? from Brownells.

Hi guys,
I appreciate the responses. I'll look for some sights at Brownells, but I have to say it is so confusing. THere are so many different types that it wil be tricky to ensure I purchased the correct set.
If you guys could provide part numbers that would really be helpful.
Thanks,
Pigseye

Hey Guys,
Is this the part number that will work for my RIA?
487-104-003 - #104, Narrow Tenon
It's on this page at their website.

How do you find out what size tenon your front sight is? Wait for it to fall out?
What if I don't have a Colt and the sight won't fall out during normal use? Hahahahahaha!
Seriously, how do you know?

I read in Pat Sweeney's book that this Chip Mccormick rear sight is a drop in replacement for a GI rear sight dovetail. Brownells confirms it. It looks pretty sweet, I think:

But I guess that doesn't solve pigseye's front sight problem. Good luck, piggy.

pigseye:
Consider having a front dovtail cut. There's absolutely nothing wrong w/ a properly staked tenon-type sight, but having a 'smith mount a new sight either way costs about the same & especially with taller, heavier sights a dovetail is stronger.
You should pay between $25-40 for a front dovetail cut. Wilson's "Snag-Free" sights are a great deal (~$35) if yours is a Govt. or Cmdr. length pistol (Wilson part# 367D). The rear sight uses the existing dovetail.
So you can have a good set of sights & the work done for about $70-bucks.
