Howdy all, I'm a new member and just love this site. Had a question I was hoping to get answered. In 1989 I bought a SS Delta Elite for my main carry weapon, I was a licensed PI at the time. I sold it a year later to an attorney client/friend of mine on the condition that if he ever wanted to sell it, I would have first dibs. Well last week, I got a call from him and bought it back for what I had sold it for. I sure missed that pistol for 15 years. My question is, as I am not a collector and use my pistols for plinking and self defense, should I keep it? I am worried about the longevity of the 10mm cartridge in general. I had to go online(double tap) to get "real" 10 mm loads. I have a SA 45 and just love 1911's in general. Should I trade it for a colt 1911? I think its a beautiful pistol, just want to make sure I can find 10mm ammo 20+ years from now. Thanks.

P.S. I meant trade for a colt 1911 in .45. Like a new 70 series in SS.

There is 10mm ammo available for your DE. The 10mm seems to be making a come back.

I'd definitely hang on to it. As stumbler said the 10mm cartridge has made a comeback in popularity. Double Tap's bread and butter is the 10mm cartridge and it is a fairly new company. It may not be on the shelf at the local Wal-Mart, but there shouldn't be any problem getting 10mm ammo in the future. It sure isn't going to dry up suddenly.
Does it have to be one or the other in terms of a 10mm or a .45? If possible it would be great to have both.

Thanks for the reply. I have a springfield in .45 so I am covered there. I was just a little worried about availability of the 10mm ammo. I love the delta, when I owned it new, I had may about 50 rounds through it. My buddy never fired it. I ordered about 600 rounds from double tap, a couple of new mags from mec gar(as the original colt clip was broken) and the new spring kit from kings. I want to take it to the range this weekend. I love the extra power of the 10, just hoping this will be an available ammo choice in years to come. The only reason I was thinking of a trade was the nice series 70 repro I saw at the gunstore recently. Like you said, it might be better to have both and I don't know if I'll ever be able to find another Delta as nice as this one, considering it's personal history and all.

If I can still get .30 Luger, you'll be able to get 10mm for the forseeable future.

Definitely keep the Delta! I'm probably the wrong person to ask since one day I'd like to own a 1911 in every possible caliber, but Delta's are great :D ...and you missed it. 10mm ammo should be plenty available for years to come. I counted at least six manufacturers loading commercial 10mm.

Yup
Just answered the door to Fed Ex and 600 rounds of double tap 10mm. I got 550 of the 180 match FMJ and 50 of the 200 XTP JHP's. With all this ammo in my lap I feel a little better. Gonna hit the range tomorrow.
