Good day all, I am in need of some assistance.

I have had a Gov’t Model 1911A1 in my safe that I purchased about 10 years ago. It was described when I bought it as a US Army National Match pistol. I didn’t know whether it was or not but the piece looked in good shape, the price was right, and after taking it to the range, I found that it shot a whole lot better than I.
Fast forward to the present and I found this excellent forum and now I am interested in trying to learn what I have. I have photos posted following this piece so that all of the knowledgeable people out there can see what I am describing.

The information on the piece is as follows:
M1911A1 U.S. Army ser # 946XXX with NM markings slide, NM7791435, barrel NM7791414, bushing 7287718 NM, and NM stamped on the right side trigger guard. Additional info: 20 lpi checking on front strap; “Bomar” type rear sight – different mfg; mounted on top of slide versus cut into slide; barrel has H&R stamped on right side in between the link pin and M P stamped on left side in between the link pin; GHD is stamped on the left side of the frame as well as an upside down triangle and either a 3 or an 8 stamped on the trigger guard; a P is stamped on the left side of the frame below the mag release; right side frame – United States Property M1911A1 U.S. Army and crossed cannons stamped next to hammer pin; the slide has Colt’s PT, MFG logo on right and the NM numbers on the left; the entire pistol seems to be gray parkerized.

As I mentioned, I am curious to know what I have…if nothing else, I know that I have a great shooter that I picked up for less than the price of a used 80 series Gov’t model.

Hi

You probably already know this...

The numbers starting with 7 are National Match part numbers.

Bob,
Thanks for your reply...I did know that parts starting with 7 are NM... I also know that there are a lot of fakes out there. I'm just curious to see if what is in those photos is the real thing or not.

It's probably impossible to know either way. What the heck, this forum is great for all sorts of opinions and other information.

Thanks again!!

Hi

I'm certainly no expert on these pistols. I suspect that some of them will be along later.

The only obvious thing I can see is that the markings on the slide are a bit lighter than those on the frame. I assume it's not the lighting. I don't know if the NM slides were marked unusually lightly. If they weren't then I would guess that the slide may have been refinished. The serration's look like they are in good shape. It may just have been "light roll mark week" at the factory when yours was marked.

"Real" or not, that's a fine looking pistol.
