Does anyone know anything about this edition or where I can look for more information. A search turned up almost nothing.
I saw this pistol at a shop in Fayetteville, NC. Nice looking gun with 82nd Airborne symbol embedded in wooden grips and airborne symbol engraved in the slide.
Thanks.

No, I don't know about that particular one.....but thought I would say Colt has in the past made countless small runs for groups who commission those runs, such as police agencies, etc. , that would be only available to members of those agencies and not sold thru retail outlets. I would assume the model you are seeing is something like that.

I would agree with paul45. I did try a few quick searches and found this page at forum.m1911.org, so it is not a well known gun. I would call Colt with the serial number and see what you could find out for free.
I know guns like this seem not to have generated a lot of collector interest. My father was in WWII and grandfather in WWI, and there are collector guns of all sorts out there but I would rather live my life than relive theirs. I was in Nam and the last thing I want is a gun that reminds me of the fun I had over there. Right now be the "good old days" to me.

You are certain it's Colt produced, right?

First, I'll say thanks for the responses so far.
I am sure that it is produced by Colt in 1990 or so. I found it yesterday at a gun shop in Fayetteville, NC and looked it over closely. The serial number is something like 82AB****. I found another one for sale (Google cache) on an old auction site. I'll see if I can snag a picture.
Incidentally, it makes sense that I would find this gun in Fayetteville, NC...home to Fort Bragg and the 82nd Airborne.
Thanks.

I'm surprised you can find any Colt's for sale in NC, Hunter, Larry and Paul are all over there.....

I saw these - could you have seen this commorative gun with the 82nd grips? This gun however, is Auto Ordnance, not Colt. See the links below.

No sir, that is a different gun. The pistol I saw was manufactured by Colt. I found another example in Tennessee on an old auction page. I am looking for the pictures. I hope to be able to post them in a minute.

Here are some pictures I found from another auction site. This pistol was in Tennessee.
These should at least convince everyone that I am not crazy. :)

Glad to share it. I am going back to Fayetteville tomorrow and seriously thinking about buying this thing. It feels great in my hand. It looks even better in my hand. Just a nice looking pistol.
The only thing holding me back is the price. I don't mind spending $1,250.00 on a gun...I do that often enough....it's just usually for something that is not rare or collectible. I don't need a safe queen. My IWB holster would destroy the finish on this gun.

How much are they asking for it and did you buy it yet? (Edit: oops, you beat me to it) I paid $1000 for a Lew Horton Commander that was not nearly as cool as that one.

Now, that's a nice looking Colt! And great recognition of our Airborne troops.
