I found this article in a Shooting Times publication "Skeeter Skelton on Handguns" dated October 1980. I found reference to it in Shooting Times, October 1977. In that issue Skeeter said the original article was in Shooting Times, September, 1972. If Skeeter was around today I am sure he would want us to have it posted.

I remember the article. As I recall, without peering at the pictures of your issue, the Commander's dust cover cracked in about 4500 rounds, so it was definitely NOT performing like new. The Gold Cup only broke its rear sight roll pin, what's new? And Super Vel's regular Mk IV S70 held up fine.

+1! Good reading. I like old gun articles.... And helps reassure the rumor-mill that Colt's ARE reliable!

That is really funny, for the past few weeks I've been thinking about that exact same article I read long ago in a Shooting Times publication. Couldn't remember which one, but I really loved that in depth torture test. I was dreading the thought of going through the boxes in the basement looking for it. Thanks for the post!

Surprisingly after a many year drought I actually saw a Colt gun review in a new publication. I think the title was Concealed Carry Handguns. Picked it up at a bookstore. Had a good review of the Commander XSE. Wow. A review on a Colt... in a magazine! Makes me remember the good old days when Colts were in gun rags all the time.
