Folks I have the opportunity to purchase a LNIB Blued Mark IV Combat Commander (series 80  ) in .38 Super. Always wanted a Combat Commander sized Colt in .38 Super. The finish is similar to the polished blue of a Python. Not sure if this gun has the value of say a 60's vintage mint S70 Combat Commander due to it being a Mark IV. The barrel is unfinished showing in the ejection port, while the crown is blued along with the bushing. Rear sight is a small 2 dot sight and front is staked in place and is missing its white (could have been a night sight that dimmed) dot. Top of slide is flat from front sight to rear sight.

The gun looks to be unshot and has an incredible deep polish blue finish. What is the going price for this gun?? Price on it seems high at $ 800.00. Comes with 2 mags and the original box.

That price sounds fair to me.

My book shows it for $800 NIB so if it as you state I would say it is a fair price.

+1....I think it's a fair price (assuming it's as you state). While the Blue Book does show the price stated in post #3, i expect to pay a premium for a Colt in that condition in 38 Super, WITH the box, etc. The front site probably wasn't a tritium vile... as a matter of fact, if it was, then the gun had been modified in which case it would not be worth that price, IMO. I'm guessing that the painted white dot has just worn off.
With regards to your other question, the pre-series 80 .38 Supers are of a higher value, especially if they're "Mint". Interestingly though, the Blue Book states the difference in value being negligable (within $100, IIRC).
Good luck with the sale...and hope to see some pics soon ;)!

Thanks for the info! I will go back tomorrow and double check that the gun also has the original grips as I am having a mental block.....I do not remember if I saw the Colt Medallion on the grips.....

Maybe the early 80's Mark IV CC did not have the Medallion grips and just plain double diamond wood grips?

Thanks again !

Question for the all-knowing about Colt.

I read that it was not until the late 1980's that Colt started headspacing the .38 Super on the case mouth (no longer on the rim) due to accuracy problems in their .38 Super barrels.

Can anyone confirm if the new headspacing would be present on a Mark IV Series 80 Combat Commander??
