refitted and refinished Esmeralda Magcassar Ebony grips. I had to do a little work on relieving these for the thumb safety on both sides, so I went ahead and put a new finish on them too. Enjoy!!

Thanks, all.
I know that left grip looks a little iffy but that is just some fingerprints I should have wiped off (stupid ice cream sandwiches!!!). In person they are glassy smooth and very nice.

They look very nice. What did you do to refinish them? I'm always interested in how stocks can get freshened up.

Wow. That's a beauty. Nice refinish work. Did you use a polymer or oil finish?

Dave,
I used Formby's Tung Oil Finish (low gloss). Esmeralda uses Deft Clear Wood finish, which is a lacquer, I think. I wanted to have the option of just roughing them up a bit and adding a coat or two to "refresh" them....you just rub it on with a rag. Took a while, though.....about a week, four coats.

Deft is Polyurethane. I used it when I refinished the stock on my Romanian AK. I think poly gives a more wear resistant finish, but oil finishes are richer looking and as you said, easy to touch up. Nice work.

Forgive me, but, while Deft does make a polyurethane (several, actually), the Clear Wood Finish is a lacquer.
How about some pics of the AK? I have a couple of Hungarian SA85M's that are looking for some love..........
