Just picked up this new colt 1991 commander I had special ordered from my local gun shop. My question is why it has a standard hammer and grip safety? All the pics I have seen on gunbroker and on Colt's website show it with a skeletonized hammer and ducktail safety. Just wondering what the deal is with mine.

I got mine in December 2006. It has the same trigger as yours but has the duck tail safety and combat hammer. I don't know if it is the distributors or colt but these differences seem to pop up a lot.

Worth a call to Colt maybe, although I don't know how much they will give you for free other than when it was made.

Personally I like the spur hammer and standard grip safety better.
I may would call Colt and see what they say. It may have sat on a shelf a while.

I've come to prefer the spur hammer. I'd rather have a pistol with that than the skeletonized trigger. I like your pistol the way it is. It is odd that it came from the factory that way.

Nice Commander! I like the spur hammer too. Mine is set up the same way, except the tip of the spur is slightly oversized. I thought mine was no longer original, now I'm unsure again, lol!

I have never seen one like that! Maybe the assembler was a bit hungover from the weekend and installed the wrong parts?? I don't know, but I do kind of like it the more I look at it. It does look like a mistake to me though.

I called Colt today and they told me I could send it back and they would fix it for free. It was a mistake. I'm not sure if I want to though I kind of like it and I already have an XSE commander. Also the gun was built in 2007.

Get Colt to send you a letter saying it was a mistake and keep it with the box and manual. 25 years from now and you have a collector! :D

I vote to keep it. Like a Smith & Wesson Model 57 revolver that came into the shop many moons ago with a .44 caliber barrel...correctly rollmarked...and the gun came in a Model 29's box, complete with the correct serial number. The owner just smiled and put the gun away, marked "Not for Sale".

I'd keep it the way it is. If you can get the letter, get it.

I'll call Colt on Monday too see if I can get a letter. I can't wait to shoot it.

I'd definitely keep it. Especially with the Colt letter. You could have a nice collector's item there! But, shoot it, of course!
