I have had this 1911A1 for many years and have shown it to a lot of people at gun shows but noone has been any help. The pistol HAs the FJA stamped lightly in what I believe is the appropriate place. It also has the crossed cannons stamp on the right side behind the grip close to the top. There are no USGI markings and there is a stamped serial number 277xxxx. Any ideas? Were extra frames sold off? I thought maybe the original markings were milled. If so the rework was flawless. The thickness is virtually the same as my other 1911s.

That does not appear to be a G.I. frame. I base that almost solely on the contours just above the front of the trigger guard. A lot of commercial cast frames do not have the proper contours there, and if you compare that part of the frame to a known G.I. pistol, or any Colt, you'll see the difference.

Hi Den Den, I have one just like it. Missing the Property and US 1911 A1. Its a demilled frame that has been rewelded together. Thats why the contours are a bit different around the top of the triggerpart of the frame, and also a bit around the bottom of the trigger guard. If you look inside where the barrel and frame meet, it may also "look" a bit rough. They were saw cut and sold by the pound as scrap. Some one had the idea to reweld the two pieces together. I had mine reparked and to the average "gun nut" its a nice old 45. I shoot mine all the time and have never had a problem. Hope this helps.

HI Indian... Sorry I just saw your post today as I had given up on any help. I was looking for milling signs not sawing. Funny the inside of the frame looks really good. You are probably right though because the area above the trigger guard looks ground, or maybe rotary deburred. The most telltale sign is a mark or crack in the slide groove on the left side - looks like it did not get welded properly. Has always shot good though and my 9mm slide fits and functions perfectly. Thanks for your help.

I agree it looks cut and welded. I think they re-cut the finger cutouts, too. Those cutouts don't look quite right.
