Just got the older style thumb safety installed on my Colt Lightweight. How lucky was I to find a stock safety not used in a local smiths shop!!
darn thing matches and everything!!! Must have meant to be :)
I just like the unclutered look of the single sided safety and this one wont be "knocked" off like my extended one has before.

Sure has that warm "original" feel to the newer XSE Colt

It looks good, and if you like it, that's what matters.

What was the previous safety's offense --- design, function, or cosmetic?

cosmetic and I didnt like that it was adding to the bulk on the right side. Just prefer the unclutered frame, slide look :)

Me too! Although i had a harder time getting used to the smaller safeties (having not fired a one very often until recently) i greatly prefer the look to an extended....and i've got the technique fairly well mastered now too.

I replaced mine in my XSE LW Colt Commander because a friend had a holster that would force it off every time the gun was put in it. My holster was O.K., but I am right handed and didn't need the ambi safety anyway, so went to a small tactical safety for right hand only. Since I now carry my new Commander, I put the XSE back to the way I got it. When I carried the XSE I also removed the FLG and put on some cheaper stocks fitted with slotted screws.
