have been looking for a bright nickel commander for a while. I have noticed they all seem to be series 70, but ran across a series 80 in bright nickel. I grabbed it and then called colt. They said it was built in '83 or '84 and left as a satin nickel. The box clearly shows B NICK on it and the previous owner was sure it came from the factory this way. The gun has only a handful of rounds shot in it. In fact it has never been cleaned or taken apart that I can tell. Anybody run across this before?

hey there....

have been looking for a bright nickel commander for a while. Really? I feel left out....didn't know that finish was available in commander form?

I have noticed they all seem to be series 70, but ran across a series 80 in bright nickel. You found pre series 80 commanders in bright nickel? Darn....can you provide a link or pics?

The box clearly shows B NICK on it
I saw the pics and am kinda shocked. Didn't know that even existed! Sure looks factory doesn't it?

Maybe you can email pics to Colt?

In over 30 years of collecting Colt's I have never seen a bright nickle Commander, Series 70 or 80. I would guess that the hand written number on your box FO 11663 or what ever may be a FACTORY ORDER number. Something Colt did, but doesn't like to acknowledge for a special customer. Very rare indeed.

I guess the picture isn't clear enough but the s/n on the box and gun matche.Special order? I didn't think of that. I think I will call colt back with the numbers on the box. I didn't have the box when I first called them.

Thanks everyone,I was worried after the colt call I had purchased a refinished gun. I am certain now after your comments and my examination of the commander it is factory. Now if I can get them to admit to it......

No such animal as a Series 70 Commander...
