Out of the various manufactures of 1911A1 pistols during WWII, how would you rate the quality of each? Meaning, was a Colt better than a Remington Rand? A Rem Rand better than an Ithaca?

Now, I know that they all me the Ordnance spec, but in a down to earth inspection, nit pick here or there, whose was of the highest quality? (Fit, finish, etc...)

I am just curious. I know that they all performed the function that they were intended to. I am just looking for some thoughts.

According to Ordnance.... Remington Rand seemed to be the highest performer, while Ithaca was noted as bringing up the rear. I guess Colt and US&S were somewhere in between. I guess they all had their stregths and weaknesses. There are references to this in Clawson's books.

I would say the earlier Colts had better fit and finish but by the middle to end of the war all producers were about equivalent. The Ordnance Dept thought highly of Remington Rand since they produced an excellent pistol at the lowest price and had the highest output.
