Tuner helped me decide which parts to change out of my 1961 Colt Sistema. It needed sights I could see, a trigger I could manage, and a grip safety that didn't bite me. Earlier, Tuner dabbed a bit of green paint on the front sight, which was an improvement. But my hand complained every time I shot it, and I couldn't hit the bullseye at 25 yards.

So, I bought a grip safety, hammer, trigger, sear and disconnector. I put it all together, and was amazed at the difference. The trigger was much better, just from replacing the sear, disconnector and hammer.

I gave the replaced parts to Tuner. He checked out the old Argentine, disassembled it, breathed on each new part, put it back together, took it apart again, waved his hand over things, assembled it again... he called it "preparing" the parts.

I took it to the range with my new Checkmate mags, and found it to be much easier to shoot. It's got about a 5 lb trigger. It still could use some better sights; now I know it deserves them.

This afternoon, a friend completed some grips he was making for the old Argentine. I think they go well with the original finish, and the new aluminum trigger.

Good to here you are liking your Sistema with a Tuner tune-up. Your grips came out very nice the lighter wood compliments the worn finish and the burled wood speaks for it's self. Great Job.

Very nice. Very nice indeed.

So your Sistema actually had some finish, eh?

The photo disguises the lack of finish with a bit of shadow. It's not bright, but there is no finish. Funny how the new, blued parts look like they belong.

I like the worn finish... looks like a junker until you start hitting stuff at 25 yards!

It certainly does look good. Nice job.

Call King's and order a set of their hardball sights. A narrow tenon for the front and a rear one. If Johnny lives near by, he would stake the front sight for you and change the rear one. Good work on this old pistol.

Thanks, fellas! I'll tell Robie what you said about his first 1911 stocks. Maybe I can convince him to make another set, perhaps a burl inlay on a more traditional, darker base.

John, good tip! I'll call Kings as soon as they wake up today.

[EDIT: The lady who took the order knows all about the need for a narrow tenon. Kings won't have the rear sights for a month, but she took my order and will charge my card when the order ships. Good folks!]
