I can find very little info on these gems,,,
I am hoping someone here can guide me, or enlightem me.
I was in a local gun shop, and there was a colt officers, Ultimate high polish, enhanced 45 with a set of real elephant ivory grips, The piece was unfired, in the box with all papers and stock grips,,,,, Such a beautiful colt,,, I tried to leave it there, But could not, So I took it home,,, And then a few weeks later another one showed up but it was the government model, Also enhanced/ultimate finish with the same ivory grips,, It was on hold, someone made a deposit on it,,, I waited the 30 days, And the guy who made the deposit couldnt make the final payment, So was the next in line,,, Now I have the 3 1/2" and a 5" model gleaming colts, Both new in box, and I dont know their worth,, I see in the gun price books they are worth 800 bucks or so,,,, But I searched for them all over the net, and cannot find any for sale,,,,,
Please help me find more info on this set of Colts!
Thank you!
Peter.

Pred, I've seen a few of the "Ultimate" models around on the online sites (gunbroker, etc.). They've been pretty pricey!
Congrats on the purchases! LETS SEE SOME PICS!

They are both MK IVs---series 80
I have one officers 45 acp
and one government 45 acp
They are both in 100+ condition, Enhanced and high polish,,,
I would like to find a beat up one for a carry instead of the nighthawg,,, Buy where can I find another, I dont have the heart to carry one of there, althought the officers is a good size,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I usually shoot everything I own, But I cant seem to bring myself to play with the both of them,,, I have put 10 rounds through the officers, and what a nice shooter!!!
I bet that the government would be a fine one too!
Anyway heres another pic,,,,,

Nice pair you got there! Real ivory stocks to boot! Very nice! I have a high polish Government Model and I paid $999 for it. I never really saw one before so I decided I "needed" it. Mine doesn't have ivory stocks though. You did good!

Very nice indeed!
FYI, the backstrap you refer to is the "main spring housing"...the one on the Gov't model is "arched". MSH's on Colt's were originally flat. They were changed to the arched style on the M1911A1, and continued that way until the Series 80's were introduced, IIRC.

You can call Colt at 800-962-Colt and they can at least tell you when it was made.

Pred, welcome -- and those are beautiful Colts. I think that you got a good deal on them.

I just recently saw an Ultimate Commander Edition, blued slide over polished stainless steel frame, with imitation mother of pearl grips, and without box or papers, for $1,500. I passed at that price. I did pick up an Officer's high polish without the "enhanced" feature and with wrap around Pachmayr grips, but also without box or papers, for about $650. So with the box and papers, and ivory grips, $1,000 each seems pretty reasonable. I would have scarfed them up at that price.

I think you did very well.

Nice pics......both enhanced, means both made 92 or after. You have to call Colt with serial numbers for DOB.....but they won't say total production. Enhanced features began '92 and bright stainless finish option ended '96....so at least yours was made then. I am assuming someone added the fine stocks, unless the box end flap states their addition.

The MKIV Gov't is kinda the same time frame.....enhanced, so '92 at least....and that option was ended in '96.

Like I said earlier, the ivory is worth around 250 a pair.....so figure you got those beauties with box and docs for 750.......I think that is more than fair and you did VERY well!!

Congrats.....and you should keep a close eye on the gunshop!....maybe some old collector is starting to let go of his collection?!

The shop that I bought these two from has an older teacher who buys fine firearms, and lets them sit for many years, Then when he tires of them, He consigns them,,,, From time to time some fine ones come in,,,,, At another nearby shop I walked in to find a smith 19-3/ 357 in 99% condition, 6" barrel/target sights,,,$200.00,,,,,,, I now have that one too,, Never know what will turn up around here,
Thank you all for the info,,, So it seems as though they were both made between 92 + 96
And thanks for all the compliments!
Peter.
