I have been reading in this forum and the Schuemann web site concerning fitting Schuemann barrels. I have two questions 1) What is "Lowering the bed"? and 2) is this a common requirement when fitting a Schuemann barrel?

The "bed" is the concave area, on the top of the frame, where the barrel rest when it is at its down position. Lowering that means that you have to machine it deeper than it already is. I have no idea if that's common practice with Schuemann barrels or not though.

In some few gun/barrel combinations...it's sometimes necessary with Kart barrels, too.
I much prefer to remove half the required amount from the bed and half from the lower barrel radius, and no more than about .003 inch from each.
