I cant get these ambi thumb safteys to come off . I want to replace them with a single side saftey. Is there a trick to removing these?

Never mind. I just got them off with a little elbow grease and some pliers. ;)

Some of mine just fall off any time I take off the right side grip, others act like they'll never come loose. I have to say though the really loose ones I did just a 'lil bit of tightening to.

Basically there are three types of ambi safeties around.

- The ones where the right pad is held in place by an extension going under the right-hand grip panel. You remove these by removing the grip panel and simply pulling the right pad of the safety out.

- The ones where the right pad is held in place by an extended and slotted sear pin. You remove those by removing the left pad first, in the normal way and then rotate the right side up (the slide has to be removed first, I think).

- Finally you have the ones where the right pad is held in place by an extended and slotted hammer pin. I think these are the best, but I've never tried any ambi, so don't take this as a hard stated fact. These are removed by first removing the left pad in the normal way and then rotating the right pad down until it clears the hammer pin.

Take the above with a bit of salt, too early in the morning to be fully trustworthy.
