I've been offered a Kimber Custom "Classic" model, s/n K0051XX, says December 1996 on the box. Gun looks like new, gotta be 98% or better. Comes with two mags, original box with owners manual and a spare set of rosewood grips. Also comes with 20 rounds left in the only box of ammo bought for this gun.

This would be my first 1911, been looking at the Springfield Milspec models and then this came along. Asking price is $600 but that's about what the new Custom Series II are going for. Any extra value in being an older model? I've checked Gunbroker and Auction Arms but I don't see any of the older models, just Series II. Is the "Classic" model a discomtinued pistol? TIA

It's a series one pistol, and worth more than the "new" models. Take it!!!

$600 for an almost new classic sounds about right. My local shop has a series I Custom Target for $600 and it has laser sight stocks, but it is also covered in rust spots including some patches of corrosion on the barrel! If it were in the condition you just described, I would buy it in a heartbeat. The series I guns seem to be a little higher quality and lack the silly firing pin safety system of the series II.

I just litterally bought a 99% Kimber Custom TLE II today. It has Mayan Blood Wood grips, case, lock, etc. about 100 rounds through it at most.
Price was $600.
Good Luck. :D

Sounds like you're right in the ballpark. I just gave $650 for a NIB Custom I a week or so ago from an individual. I wouldn't hesitate at all to give $600 for a 99%.
