I am thinking of buying a FN High Power, from cdnn, for 399 they have 2 one is the mark 3 the other is more like the original ww2 version, and has the black plastic grips, comes with one 15 and one 10 round mag. and case. I think this is a good deal, can any give me a breif history of the FN High Power? Why are these so much less than the browning manufacture? is it a quality thing or just profit? thanks

Hello. They are the same gun, same everything except for markings and grips. FN's don't have the name Browning does in the US. When FN began importing Mk III's into the US a few years back, it was said that the finish was better on the Browning marked guns but more current responses rate them as equivalent.

Best.

thanks, so the fn is a good buy, and in some respects original manufacture of world war 2 type High Powers not knockoffs

Hello. If I didn't already have enough to keep an octopus shooting, I'd buy one or two at that price.

Mr. Camp: Can the FEG P9R accept a rear sight of a Browning HP? Thanks beforehand, THUD.-

Hello. On that I am not sure. The P9R is a different version of the HP and I've not examined the dovetails for similarity.

Thanks again, Mr. Camp. I'll try to have a look on a B-HP and take a measure of the dovetail. THUD.-

Hello and congratulations on your new Hi Power. Mainsprings are pretty stout on the Hi Power, 32-lbs.

I bought an FN assembled gun a couple of years ago, that was from a European contract. It has a blue finish on it that looks like glass. Reminds me of some of the early S&W bluing. I haven't seen any recent guns that even come close.

The biggest difference I noticed between my all Belgian model and the one assembled in Portugal is that the Portugal model shoots anything I feed it, the other one would only work (and not always) with ball ammo. As a result, it went on to another loving home where to this day it stays put away and cherished for being what it is and not how it shoots (or doesn't). Neither ever had a FTE. Only one ever had FTF and lots of them.
