While this is a good idea, realization that its not cost effective comes in when you can find a Brinkman flashlight with a xenon bulb that uses 2 of the 123 batteries, and has the same lumens as a surefire for under 20 dollars.

This was previously discussed and I actually made two. See thread: http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=31964 The cost is not under $10, but the ouput is correct and it runs about $14.

I did this last weekend with an .89 cent flashlight from wally place and was able to get the batteries and bulbs wholesale. total cost $4.02 It's no $100 flashlight, but boy is it bright! Fun to do at that cost but have to agree with Brian otherwise.
