The most expensive and rarest Colt, to me, is the one I'm looking at, at the time, and can't afford and have to pass on!! :D

Would have known, but its too rare, i can't find it. Colt 1970 and onwards. Isn't it supposed to be 1970 and backwards?

Colt Model 1911 Serial number 1, I would say.

what i meant by the question was during the 70s upto now, what would be the rarest version of colt(colt goldcup, series 70, series 80, 1991a1, coltr custom, etc), im sure the 60s colt and backwards will be collector's items and would fetch a really high price, that's why i asked 70s and onwards......

I'm not sure which is the rarest, but the Special Combat Government is expensive and a low production pistol for one that is in production right now.

Good point Jeff. I have that problem from time to time as well!

Starting with the original Series 70 pistols up to the present I would have to think the rarest and potentially most valuable would have to be one of the limited runs of the original Series 70. First of all it is over, there will never be anymore of the original Series 70 pistols built. Second there were several variations that were quite limited. One that comes to my mind, because I own one, is the Series 70 Government Model with the Coltgaurd finish. I don't know how many were built, but they were all done in the Custom Shop and I have been told by sources at Colt they were originally scheduled for 500 but that less than 400 were actually done. When you consider how many Series 70's were built a run of less than 400 is pretty small. Since I purchased mine over 20 years ago I have only seen one other offered for sale.

I agree with Dave as well. However, my Officer Match is pretty rare. I have yet to see another one in a while. The price tag that came on it said $1800.00. Ther were only 350 built. I know most of these guys know what I'm talking about but so everyone does. This particular Officers Match is basically a SS series 80 gold cup national match that comes with an officers upper reciever too.

There were only 250 Colt Gold Cup National Match chambered in .40 S&Ws made in the late '80s.
That may be a possibility.

A pre 80 series lightweight commander in 38 super would be on my short list as would a 9mm Gold Cup
