I need advise from anyone that has the same 57 yr old eyes as me.I can not pick up target like I can on 3 white dot sights on my 80 series so I need to change. Can this be done without future problems{staying fixed} I am a shooter, not a Smith. Is this something that can be done by a good Smith,or do i need to send it to Colt,or is their someone who is specialized in sight changes.
Thanks

Hello, the first thing you might want to try is as simple as putting some nail polish in your favortie color on the sights using a toothpick. There is sight paint available as well. I actually use some of the sight paint in bright green on my front sight that has a tritium dot w/white ring. Easy to apply as well as remove if it doesn't work. For my almost 51 y.o. eyes that paint made a world of difference.
Now there are lots of aftermarket sights available, most if not all require some machining & hence refinishing of your slide. Some of the more popular in no particular order are Novak, Yost-Bonitz, Heinie-there are more, it's late & the old brain is ready to snooze. Do a little internet surfing to check these products out and see what you think.
Good luck. Hope that gives you a good start.

Any competent 'smith can do it.
Here's a few choices, or you can get the Series 80 sight from Colt (at least you use to be able too).

101 thru 106 require no machining.

Thanks guys,
Saw sight paint at gun store but I was leary about using it.I think I will check into it more.If it does not do the job, I will take to a good Smith.

I use white out on the front sight for my revolvers. I tried the sight paint and white out is brighter. I use the bottle with the sponge applicator and just brush it on the front sight post and I can see it better. I've also used it on my Government models. It's not permanent and is easily redone when it rubs off. As far as I can tell, it doesn't harm the blueing.
