So I went out to a local gun shop to see what they had in stock. I never do this, always buying new from my FFL but hey what the heck. They has three commanders that were interesting and would like to know what you thoughts are, knowing full well that this could be dangerous.
First Commander had;
-A bright stainless frame and slide flats Combat Commander. Very slick feeling. Later I thought it may have been Hard Chrome.
-Cheesy Grips with a Frank Lloyd Wright looking inlays in laminated wood.
-The top of the slide was matt stainless finish with a raised rib.
-Fixed sights.
-Mag Well.
-Series 80
-$1,699.00
The other two were 9mm.
-Series 70.
-Nice deep 98% Blue Finish, slight honest wear.
-Safety looked to be a different tone blue.
-Adjustable sights, which frankly I do not care for.
-Again, cheesy looking faux marble fat grips with Colt medallion.
-$1,299.00
-Series 80 MKIV
-98% Blue Finish.
-Adjustable Sights.
-Nice Wood Grips with Colt Medallion.
-$1,495.00
The prices are high as far as I am concerned. I cannot see myself paying these kind of prices when I just paid $650.00 OTD for a NIB unfired Blued Commander. But these were different, so I thought maybe I would see what you all think. I never really considered a 9mm Colt. I prefer to carry a larger bore, and besides, my little 9mm world begins and ends for me with my BHP.

:scared: Too high on all of them. Low ball them and see what they say. The worse that can happen is a "no". " :D

I think you went into the wrong door. You saw a sign for a gun shop but I think you entered Robbers' Roost.
Those prices aren't just "high," they're ridiculous. You can buy a brand new Colt 1991 Blued Combat Commander for well under $1,000. A couple of years ago, I picked up a pre-80 Series Colt Combat Commander in 9mm for $500 (plus shipping and transfer fees. It has some miles on it and I hated the Pachmayr grips and immediately replaced them with a pair of wood double diamond grips, but even after all that it was less than half the cost of the one you're looking at.

The prices seem way too high unless they were owned by Elvis or something.

That is exactly what I was thinking and I am not what you would call experienced. Why I appreciate this forum. Thanks.

9mm Commander prices have gone up since Hawkmoon bought his (at least on gunbroker, gunsamerica and auction arms) but they all sound way overpriced. I saw a pristeen 9mm Commander at a gunshow earlier this year that was marked 900.00 and that was from a guy that I know marks them up 100.00 or so. I might have bought it but was in selling mode at the time! :(

Those prices are outrageous. That gunshop is out for a 'kill.' Jeff1124 is right. Colt Commanders in 9mm prices are now up. And if you can find them.

I'd have been interested in the 1st pistol, but not at that price, I would have been interested in really just looking at it and not buying it.

Thanks for all your feed back. This is very typical of the market I live in, durable goods wise across the board. If I want to go the a gun show would have to drive a minimum of 3-4 hours. That is why I have yet to buy a used gun, not that I own a ton of guns.

You should provide the name of this "shop" so the government can add it to the list of Terrorist Nations.
