Hello,
I own a Colt Officers ACP .45. I bought the gun ~15 years age. The finish is parkarized. However, the internals have amazed some friends. The mainspring is actually 2 springs (narrow inside larger). Also the plunger is short ~1 inch. Would you worry aboiut short plunger-replace? Is it customized. Shots like it was Heaven made.

I assume you are talking about dual recoil springs. Not to nit pick, but the main spring is the proper name for the hammer spring in 1911s.
The Officer's model came with dual recoil springs from Colt. Colt did that with some of their models including the Delta 10mm.
If you are not having any function problems with it, I would leave the recoil springs and the recoil spring guide alone.

I would switch out the dual springs to a single Wolff, made specially for the OM. It will cycle a bit smother with a single spring.........

Hello,
Please, nitpick, I need the education. I have only fired probaby 100-150 rounds through gun. On nighthawk web site they advised to change recoil sprinds @ 500 rounds (OM). Do you agree?
thanks

I agree with Wichaka. Wolff makes a replacement spring www.gunsprings.com and so does Kings gun works www.kingsgunworks.com

Most vendors who sell replacement springs recommend that. I personally follow there advice and I haven't had a hick up out of any of my officers.... ;)

Does the recoil spring guide need to be replaced to use a single spring?
I know on a Delta the guide is a narrower diameter than usual to accomodate the small inner spring.
I yield to the knowledge and experience of Wichaka and Larry Starling on whether 500 rounds is a life for these springs.
At the least, get the replacement spring and if necessary the guide and have it/them on hand when you do need it/them.

The guide rod on a Colt Officers ACP is smaller in diameter than the guide rod in a Government model or Commander in order to accomodate the dual springs. It is also shorter than a Commander guide rod, so you can't stick a Commander guide rod into an Officers pistol. The special Wolff spring Wichaka referred to is listed in the Wolff catalog as being made to replace the dual springs while using the stock guide rod. One end of the spring is reduced in diameter to fit the OEM guide rod.
The other choice would be to either buy a Para-Ordnance P12.45 guide rod (the old style, their new pistols use a dual encapsulated recoil assembly) and thereafter use conventional single springs for the P12.45 (which was an Officers length pistol but came from the factory with a single recoil spring), or get a Government or Commander guide rod and cut it down to Officers length.
Keep in mind that Wolff has two springs for this size pistol, one for use with the small guide rod and one for use with "standard" diameter guide rods.
