It happened again. I saw it Monday, asked a few questions here, and went back today to look at it again. It followed me home............dang :D !!!
I have to admit that I have always liked the two-tone guns. This Combat Elite fills the bill just right!!

Its used, but in good shape. I called Colt, and they said it was made in 1994. The only real mark on the gun is the "idiot" mark. It came with the box, and owners manual. It also came with the magazine pictured below. It has the dimpled follower, but I am curious as to the info on the base plate.

Checkmate military contract magazine.

I bought a few at one of the gunshows. Reading up on the Magazine threads here, I made a slight tweak to the feed lips. These mags will now feed anything from hardball to semiwadcutters.

Hey Lobo,

That is a nice looking Colt. Sorry I cut the bottom of my reply off. I really like the two tone look. Dark over silver.

Nice find! That idiot mark might polish out with a bit of work, or at least become less obvious to you.

Nice Elite. Love the two tone look.

As someone has already said, that is a Checkmate .mil contract mag. Here are the specifics from the magazine ID sticky:

garrettwc,
thanks for the great information on the magazine. I hope its not too much, but any idea on when it was made?

Thanks all for the compliments. This is a great place! :D

Kinda OT, but does anyone know where I might find a book about Colt manufactured 1911's? Maybe from the beginning to recently made guns?

garrettwc,

Hard to say. That cage code began to be used in 1975 and was used up until the Beretta M9 replaced the 1911. Somewhere in that 10 year span between '75 and '85.
