I'm a recently retired LEO and a Lieutenant who used to work for me is selling some of his guns. I got what I think is a good deal on this Series 70 for $500.

$500?! That's a fair deal if it was on fire. Good job.

That is a great deal on a beautiful Colt. When do you plan on taking her to the range? I would like some more pictures and a range report (but I am somewhat of a fanatic). :D

Last year when my friend bought it I got to shoot it extensively on our department range and it shot great. I had been lusting after it ever since. I couldn't believe he was willing to part with it. The serial number is 70G52xxx which I believe makes it a 1974 production. I'll work on more photos.

Actually he only had $450 in it and that what was he was asking. I upped to $500 to give him a little profit, so no steak for him! :D and since it seems he originally stole it the most you can get me for is RSP! :p

Great buy! Maybe I missed the post, as I read through the thread rather fast, but have you called Colt and found out its date of manufacture?

Everytime guys at work start yapping about the S&W M&P, Glock and the XD, they ask me what I'm going to buy and I tell 'em I don't like plastic guns. I like REAL guns made of metal. Python, Government Model and Diamondback.
We don't need no steenking plastic!

I'm not sure how reliable this site is: http://www.proofhouse.com/ but I looked it up there and came up with a 1974 production date.
