I just received a brand new DW Commander Classic Bobtail - .45 Caliber. A good looking 1911 – smooth as glass and tight as a tick. All of the research on the decision to purchase the CBOB was done on this m1911forum – Excellent forum, extremely well organized with a world of information. Thanks.
During my research I found several CBOB pictures with the word “Match” engraved on the barrel at the ejection port. I knew that DW advertised a Match grade barrel and other parts; however, when my piece arrived the “Match” engraving was not there. So, I decided to strip her down for a good cleaning and lube and check out the barrel for the engraving – not there! I became concerned that the barrel might have been swapped out at the Vendor or FFL before being sent. So I decided to ask DW about their barrels.
During my research I found a DW contact who was said to be responsive and who provided good customer service. Here is his contact information:
Keith Lawton
Production Manager
Dan Wesson Firearms
Keith@cz-usa.com
I wrote Keith yesterday at 11:51AM – he responded at 11:59AM – I asked him about the DW Match Grade Barrel Spec and the Engraving. Here is his response:
“All of our barrels are match grade. We started having them caliber stamped instead of having them laser engraved with the caliber which usually rubbed off. The Match word was dropped when we made the switch.”
All my fears were resolved. I am completely satisfied that I have chosen the right company and the right handgun. Now – if I can just hit the black spot on the target – I’ll bet I can with this piece. :)
