I found a Series 80 Combat Elite (45acp) Government in a local store today. I don't know anything about this model, and was hoping yall could give me some information about this model.
The one that I'm looking at has an adjustable rear sight (white outline), rubber wraparound grips, and is two-tone. The gun is "used", but is in great shape except for a scratch on the frame under the slide stop. I'm thinking it must have come from installing the slide stop back into the gun.
Any information on this model would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Lobo.
I own a Elite by my self and I am very pleased about it. And Iīm not the only one. Just look in my thread "Need some help" to see some pictures and read some comments on my Colt.
CU, EotS
PS: With a good price and a good shape you canīt do anything wrong by buying it!

...the famed "idiot" scatch...not an uncommon mistake ;) ! I have miracuously avoided causing one (knock on wood) ;)

Even though that mark is pretty common on 1911's, how much does it detract? Would it make a 90% gun into an 80% gun?
I still get nervous when I put the slide stop back into any of my 1911's.
I'm sure I'll have that *!!DOH!!* moment before its all over!

That would be the later enhanced Combat Elite with the Accro rear sight, an excellent pistol.
I have the same model and she has been a good one. My advice is if you can swing it go for it. There is a lot to be said for the Rampant Pony.

PS....you better get it....Combat Elites are going up in value fairly quickly!!

You can use some electricians tape on the frame to help avoid the idiot scratch.

Let's see here, Chris... this one is gonna make number "Three", right?... :p
They are addicting... and lots of folks have had *!!DOH!!* moments, however, Daveohno's method of prevention is brilliant.

I was not the one that thought of it. I got it here, unfortunately, I don't recall who I got it from. But I thought it was a good enough idea to pass on to our other new folks the same way I got it, here!
