I have looked at a couple of new Gold Cups lately and noticed the slide to frame fit is real lose. One I could shake and hear it rattle. Is this normal? My latest purchase, a Series 70 reissue, is not near as lose.

The only thing that makes any sense to me is how do they shoot? Pictures and more pictures are always good.

Most all my Colts (including my GCT) has a rattle to it. I am with dakota "how does it shoot?"
Slide to frame fit is not nearly as important as other factors such as barrel to bushing to slide fit. There is a thread about this very same topic going on now.

My series 70 gold cup rattles when I shake it,but it is very accurate.I think the slide to frame fit is overrated.Barrel fit to the rear of the slide and a snug bushing, barrel, slide fit at the front along with a good trigger are key imho.

The original series 70 also were a loose frame to slide fit. Many people didn't like that compared to the pre series 70 etc. I agree with arjay this has little to do with accruacy. Fit of the rear of the barrel to the slide and bushing fit are very important. That is the way they are made these days. I have had many and have shot others that were loose as you describe, they were reliable and ripped the center out of the x ring at 25 yards.

Gold Cup: How Lose is Lose?

 I assume you meant "loose." If not then if you "lose" it then it is usually "lost."
