Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to pick up my first Colt 1911.
When I went to go shoot my Colt, my Mom (who hunts, shoots, etc) went along. Long story short, she liked my XSE Government, but wanted something different.
Today this Colt Mark IV Series 80 Combat Commander joined the family. Here are some pics and also the first three digits of the serial number so maybe someone can tell us when the gun was made. The serial number is seven digits total, but here are the first three: FC0
The gun also came with a 7 round magazine that has the dimpled follower.
Any info about the gun would be appreciated as we're newbies about Colts.

Lobo, that's a great lookin' Commander and Clubhog has given you good info too. You'll find Colt's customer service folks to be right friendly. The last time I called and this is if I remember correctly, they will give you up to three "dates of manufacture" over the phone... just have your serial numbers ready! I believe I can state with some confidence that this "second" Colt won't be your last!!!

Nice looking Commander. There is something about a Colt that cannot be explained but you know it when you hold one.
I too doubt this will be your last as they are habitual.

Very nice Combat Commander LOBO!
I am quite partial to my Commanders, and as others have told you, they have a way of multiplying. ;)

Thanks everyone. I feel like she got herself a nice Colt.
This is probably a newbie question, but what is the difference between a Combat Commander & a Commander?

I didn't think there was a difference between the two you mentioned (and if i'm wrong, hopefully some "resident experts" will correctly me shortly!!!)...
There are other different Commanders though, like "Lightweight" commander which have an alloy frame (as opposed to the steel frame of the combat commander).

There may not be any difference at all. I was just wondering because, I see some that have Commander on them and then others that have Combat Commander.
I am definately new to Colts so I'm sure I'll have some more newbie questions along the way!!! LOL!!!! :D
Thanks ;)

Very nice Combat Commander LOBO. http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif
There is a difference between the Commanders and Combat Commanders. Commanders are alloy framed (the lightweights) and the Combat Commanders are steel framed.

jeff1124 The Magazine looks like a Checkmate manufactured one.
Is that good or bad?

it's good. although the possibility that the spring is worn out due to use or age is always there!

Great looking Commander....From my own personal experience when I buy a used gun the first rule of thumb is contact Wolff and buy new springs for them. Here is a link www.gunsprings.com Enjoy :)

Good suggestion, Larry. I always buy the Type II service pack that comes with the extra power magazine spring too.

I called Colt today, talked to Carol I believe, and she said the gun was made in 1984. Cool.
And yes, I am already suffering from Coltitis. You say theres no cure.....dang :D
