Does the 1911 Govt model magazine fit and work in a Combat Commander?
It is my understanding that the Combat Commander has a full size grip with a .75 in. shorter barrel.

You are correct. Standard magazines work in the Combat Commander.

That is correct. Government and Commander use the same magazines. You don't get into shorter magazines until you reach the compact size guns.

And you can use government mags in a compact, however, they will stick out the bottom about half an inch.

You just can't use compact magazines in a full size frame.

That makes it easy. I can get the Govt. model mags from the local gun shop. Thanks to all for the info.....

I love to see these basic questions about the Government Model, it means we have another new guy joining the the club! The original is a 96 year old pistol and still getting new fans every day!

Or a young mechanical engineer who now understands how the mags work in a 1911 versus other pistols.
