I have several 1911's but no Colts. I am a fan of the Commander (4.25 in barrel) size and have found one, stainless, NIB, through an online dealer for roughly $650. Is this a good buy or should I keep looking around? My first reaction was that it was a reasonable price. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Asking price is very fair for a Nib example. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it at that price.....

XSE? That's an excellent price. 1991A1? That's reasonable.

Ric has a point. The price being fair depends a lot on what model the pistol is. Due to the price you list I assume it is a 1991 series stainless model. $650.00 is a good price for it.

Sounds like a fair price for a pony

For a NIB 1911 04091U, i think it's a good price. I would buy at that price for sure (relative to the current prices where i live and what i see online).
Here's one on gunsamerica for $729 (and you'll have to pay shipping, FFL, etc.):

EDIT: after perusing gunsamerica i now think that $650 is a great price! The cheapest i saw was $729, and many were $749-$859.

It is a great price, that model has the duckbill GS and the undercut below the triggerguard. Mine shoots like a million! I don't think you can go wrong!

See, this is why I should have NEVER joined the forum, I knew it would get me into trouble! Kidding, thanks to all for the input. I've found this is an awesome resource for anything 1911.

I figured it was a good price but I do not have any experience with Colts. To answer the questions, yes it is a 1991 series, stainless. Good call on that, by the way and thanks again.

I guess I could repeat most of the above and say it sounds like a good to very good price.

Absolutely good price for a Commander Pony. I paid the same for my blued Commander two years ago. You can't go wrong with a Colt Commander. Welcome to the addiction. :D

It is cheaper than I paid for my 04091U. Grab it up!

+1 to above. Buy that pony (and soon you'll be looking at another).
