Hi, everybody.

I´m a newbee on this forum from good old Germany, so please be gentle to me and my bad English.

Here is my problem: I got a very nice Colt "Mark IV Series 80 Combat Elite" with the serialnumber CG 12812. "CG" was used by the Combat Elite models ... I´ve just learned about this. But that´s all I know about her ...

Can anybody tell me something about the history?

Thanx a lot!

EnemyOfTheState

PS: Don´t matter my nickname - I just like the movie

Hello "EnemyOfTheState",

Welcome to the forum and do not apologize for your English grammar and usage, it is as good as any I've seen. Not too many of us here on this side of the pond speak the "King's English" anyway. I cannot give you the specifics you ask about for you Colt, but will tell you it is as fine a firearm as ever manufactured. Someone... Hunter, OD*, Joni Lynn, Rio Vista Slim, Wichaka, or even John or another very knowledgable Colt person will drop by soon to offer their input.

Enemyofthestate,
Welcome aboard! I think your English is fine too....much better than many over here!
I don't know much about your gun either, but did find this one for sale on gunbroker, and thought the pics/info from the site might help out some.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=76742221

The seller says this: "This is a Colt Mk IV, Series 80 “Combat Elite” in .45 ACP. This Colt Model was similar to the Series 80 Gold Cup but featured Blued carbon steel slide, stainless steel frame, wrap around rubber grips, beveled magazine well, and ACCRO adjustable sights with white dot front and white outline rear."

Hope this helps!

I'm out of town this week, but if no one else does it for you, I will call them on Friday. Can you post pictures? Would sure like to see it! If you need assistance, go up to "FAQ" at the top of page and then look for the link to posting pictures.

Pre-enhanced versions have been around a while earlier.....86-87 if I remember. Here is an example from '87... a Combat Elite Custom Edition, with a 2 digit serial number....

Hello everybody!

Here is my attempt to show you some pictures of my Colt.

Do you know the guy, who takes a picture of you and the result is an ugly, red-eyed monster? Or he is taking a picture of a group of friends and all you see is their feet?

Okay, this guy, that´s me ... so beware of the quality! You may need medical treatment ... ;-)

EnemyOfTheStateEotS, I totally forgot to call Friday! But I promise to give them a shout first thing Monday morning and will post it as soon as I do. Very sorry! Probably all they will have for us is the year of manufacture, but I will also ask if they can give me any other information as well.

I just have questions. What is it like buying a pistol in what us folk call Germany? Waiting period?

Okay, in Germany there are some points, which are to be considered to get a gun!

1. You have to be a member in an official shooter association.
2. You have to practice shooting at least for a year, regularly every month or at least 18 times in a year.
3. You have to document your shooting dates and shooting results in a shooter´s book.
4. Your association has to proof your documents and to endorse that you need your own gun for better results.

So the waiting period is at least one year (it starts with your first day beeing am member in a shooter´s association).

5. You must examine that you can handle with weapons and know the rules of safety and so on. About this examination you will get a certification.
6. All documents (shooting book, certification etc.) you have to give to your local government office. They will proove if you are rewarded by police, or if something else is wrong about your person.

... and finally you get a license to buy 2 weapons in a period of one year (this year starts with the day you get your license).

In this license you are allowed to buy for example 1 pistol Cal. .45 ACP and a rifle in Cal. 223 Rem (if you want this und your association adorsed it). You are free to choice which pistol you will buy, but it has to be a Cal. .45 ACP. If you want to buy a pistol in Cal. 40, you have to ask again for permission.

After buying a pistol you have to indicate this to the local government office. They again will proof your license.

If you are not able to buy a gun in the year (maybe you got not enough money) the permission will expire and you start again at number 2 (see above).

For at least 3 years you have to document that you are regularly shooting, otherwise the permission to own a gun will expire again.

So that´s one possible way to own a gun in Germany.

I hope this explantion will answer your question.

Welcom EotS, you've got a really cool looking Colt there. It was interesting to compare the hurdles you have to jump in order to own guns. We have a couple of states that make it more difficult than is warranted but most places in U. S. are fairly reasonable about gun ownership. At any rate you should enjoy your Colt if it shoots as good as it looks. Be safe and enjoy.

It is my first Colt ever. It makes a boy´s dream come true! I bought her a couple of days before (just on August, 6th). So she is really new to me.

On august the ninth I shot her ... and she is shooting as well as she looks! And I´m really happy about that .... you can see a big smile around my face all day long ;)

Even though it's a constant struggle to keep our rights from being erroded any further, a story like this really makes you appreciate the freedoms we still enjoy.

Congrats on not letting such restrictions keep you from your goals.

Absolutely! Those are some serious hurdles compared to the states. In my state of New Mexico anyone can buy a gun (assuming you're cleared by NICS) and carry "open"... and own as many as you like.
Congrats again on your new Colt!

EOTS, those are some real hurdles. Especially the 18 times per year shooting. I go to the range maybe about 18 times per year and people around here think I'm at the range ALL the time. From about 2000 to 2004 I only shot 3 to 4 times per year. It's kind of interesting to hear the different hoops one must jump through to own a firearm in different places.

I hope your new to you Colt gives you many years of great service!

In Germany nobody got the general right to own weapons. The permission to own a weapon must be justified in the person itself, for example being a hunter or by shooting in a shooter´s association. There must be a reason why you are needing a gun. And this will be proofed like I told you above. So if you overcome the hurdles and get the license you are really a lucky guy.

... and I am!

EotS, I just got off the phone with Paul at Colt Customer Service. He said your Combat Elite was produced in 1988 and is a Model Number O8011. Looks like production started on this model in 1986. Hope this helps!

That´s no problem. For example I go to the range every third Saturday a month. That means twelve dates in a year for sure. This month I am on vacation (and i bought my lovely Colt). So I went to the range every week. And in the year we make 4 matches, just to see who´s the better one. :)
That´s all, but ....

.... I´m married, you know! And my beloved wife is the best wife of all.

Cause she lets me go ... :D (that is the real hurdle, if you know what I mean!)
