This seems to me to be a superior design than your standard ambi. Anyone have any opinions (based on experience, please..) to share about it?
Thanks !!!

I've wondered about those myself but haven't had one in hand.

I have several Kings ambi safeties on my pistols (not sure if 201A). I like them a lot.
I do not care for the tang type ambi safeties. More metal surface to scratch the frame - and they can come loose were the shafts come together.

Longslide,
I have read a lot of your posts on here and I can say with all sincerity that I value your opinion on things like this.
This is exactly the kind of useful feedback I was looking for. I recently acquired a new slab with the "thin" grips (and bushings) that I am designating as my CCW but, as a lefty, I have to go with an ambi and don't want to have to relieve the grips to paper thin just to accomodate the ambi. The King's solution looks very attractive to me - I have done some searching and apparently they are also using them on some specops guns as well.
If you could expound a bit on pros/cons, that would be super. If not, thanks for what you've offered up already.
Cheers,
Tim

I have a King's 201A on my PC1911. I installed it because the right-side stock safety kept working loose. The King's safety absolutely will not work loose. I like the size and shape too; left & right sides are the same size, which is nice if you're a lefty like I am.

DITTO to the above post! The Kings are great units- There is nothing negative about them from my point of view. As stated the flats are smaller and that has less surface to the frame - less chance of scratching the pistol. (all thumb safeties will scratch the frame but not as much with the Kings on the right side. They are well made and the male and female notch in the post fit nicely. They come in wide paddle and tactical.
Also Kimber ambi (pinned style) are almost exactly the same. The are less money. I have two of them - and they work just as well. The Kimber is MIM - not sure if the Kings is MIM - a call to them will get all the questions answered.
They are easy to install as well - if you need help just give me a holler and I can send you pics of what the sear to thumb safety lug needs to look like.
PS thanks very much for the compliment. :o

Welcome. I might add that I've used the Kimber safety as well and, while functionally it is well designed (perhaps even better than the Kings since it provides a positive stop in the off position), the right-side paddle is smaller than the left--not as well suited for us lefties.

dogdollar,
My lefthanded son is ready to get a 1911, and we were woundering what type of ambi-safty to go with. It looks like the King's is what we were after. Did you instal one? How do you like it?
