Looking at that Colt Agent of yours finally convinced me to do something I have wanting to do for a while and that is trade some guns in to pretty much go just with the 1911 platform.

Today I traded in a Sig 239, Colt 1908, S&W 19, Walther PPK/s, CZ 75 Compact and a S.F. .45 XD, I also was going to trade in my Beretta 92 but gave that to my father in law as a gift. He is a retired LAPD officer and has a number of revolvers but no semi autos, he had mentioned years ago wanting a 92 as the LAPD converted to them after he retired.

I picked up a NIB Colt Agent and a "had to ask is that new?" Springfield Loaded Operator, it was not new but darn close and it even came with 2 Wilson magazines to boot. I feel pretty rounded as far as 1911s go, here is what I curently have.

Colt Commander
Colt Defender Plus
Colt New Agent
Les Baer TRS Commanche
Kimber Warrior
Springfield Operator
Para Ord LTC

I did keep my Walther PPK in .32ACP, My HK P7, Keltec .32 and my CZ 75. Thes gun are are classics to me I could not part with them.

The Agent seems like a gem, going to the range tonight to put 200 rds thru it as soon as the rain stops. I already ran into a problem with it as I took it apart to do a quick clean and lube. The plunger tube is too small at the opening that meets with the slide stop. I could not get the gun back together as the slide stop would not push the plunger in. I could push it in with the end of a wooden rod but not with the slide stop. I switched out the plunger with the one from the Defender Plus and had the same problem. I oiled, worked the plunger by hand all to no avail. I had to resort to removing the plunger, putting the gun back together and then inserting the plunger and putting the thumb safety on last. This worked but was a pain.

On to the Springfield, came apart fine, went together fine. I switched out the standard rubber grips with a set of VZ grips. As I was usng the allen wrench to thighten the last screw the head of the screw broke off. The grips on on, held by 3 screws but now without the head I can not get the broken screw out to replace it. I am going to repalce the whole brushing to fix that puppy!

OK so 7 less handguns than this morning (counting the Beretta), two more 1911s than this morning. I can live with that! Even with the issue I already had with the new 1911s I am happy. Part of the allure of the 1911 platform for me is that they sometimes need a little tinkerng to run, I like that. As long as both are reliable then all is well.

It has stopped raining so off to the range. I will post a range report tonight if anyone is interested.

:D

They can be so very addicting can't they?
Great choice in guns, post a few pics soon!

2 new pistols is good! I hope the plunger issue is resolved easily. The bushing on the other is an easy fix as you already know.

Let us know how the range trip goes.

We need pictures! The Gunny will be out real soon!

The slide stop in the New Agent is a little tough to get in. I used a tool to hold the guide rod out a shade taking the tension off the link. The slide stop slipped right in. You may try that.
I have really began to like the New Agent and I showed it to a good friend of mine who is looking to upgrade his CCW from a Kel Tec and he was sold immediatlly on the little Colt. I think Colt has a winner here.
I must say it does my heart good to hear you racking up on the Government Models (that was almost a pun, racking up-Government Model-rack the sli...never mind).
I would also love to see some pictures of your new pistols and I am happy for you. I hope you hold no ill will to me and my bad influence. :D

Thanks for the goodwill! Also thanks for the info on the slide stop I wll try that tonight as I clean the little guy.

The range trip was cut short by the rain. :(

50 rds Fiochhi 230gr FMJ thru the Springfeld: Kimber mags, Wilson mags, Shooting Stars, Les baer mags used.

No issues at all, shot wonderfully. I really like the rail on this and the Kimber Warrior as it adds some weight to the front and helps the gun shoot easier. I am going to have to add some more range time to this as it seems like a real winner!

100 rds Fiochhi 230Gr FMJ thru the Colt : 7 rd factory mags that came with the gun used.

No issues at all ! This is the best performance I have ever had with a NIB 1911 in the first 100 rds including the $2200 Les Baer! The sight channel takes a little getting used to but was fine at 7 yards after I shot about 14 rounds. I like the sight channel in a gun the size of the Agent, as a CCW it makes sense. I really am excited about this gun, really really excited. I love the slim grips and I know this little guy will be my summer CCW. The only thing it did was knock me in the head with brass every 20 rounds or so. I did lube it after 50 rds but other than that the 100rds were fired as fast as I could lne up the sight channel. WooHoo! A working 3" 1911, who would have thunk? This is the gun my Kimber Ultra Carry II should have been! Alas the Defender did not perform as weel the other day with 100 rds.
All in all I am very happy with my moves today, I was worried about trading in 6 guns for 2 guns but after that brief range range trip all is good!

I will post pics later but dinner is getting cold!

Thanks for all the input!

Good luck with the new pistol. If Hunter got a commission on HALF the pistols we blame him for ,he'd be rich!

Ruggles, Congrats!! I did the same thing as Hunter did to reassemble the slide stop, I put a square shaped tool behind the front of the guide rod to keep the spring slightly compressed, then it was easy. I'm going to make something at work to fit it better. Springfield sells their compacts with a plastic piece that resembles a spring pin, cut in half the long way, for just this purpose. Enjoy the gun, I'm up to 300+ rounds with no failures!

I tried to help but I could not get the url to work.
I just added a picture to photobucket a just a bit ago.
Once the picture is loaded click on the last url bar under the picture and a yellow bar comes up saying "copied" and that will be what you right click and paste to your post.

The Agent & Operator, kinda sounds like a bad spy novel!

http://img105.mytextgraphics.com/photolava/2007/08/05/p1010007-47e0c1c2u.jpg

The rest of the guys, the Defender Plus is under going a little TLC right now!

The Baer and the Commander

http://img101.mytextgraphics.com/photolava/2007/08/05/p1010012-47e0cq73y.jpg

The Warrior and the Operator, yes that is skateboard type tape on the slide, I prefer to grip it farther back than the front serration, I weird that way! The tape really helps grip the slide in my hand.

Anyways I :) hope thes pictures post this time!

You're a man after my own heart. Earlier this year I sold 2 AR15's, a Romanian AK47, a Spanish CETME, Walther PPK, Stoeger Coach gun

In return, I have purchased 6 new COLT's, 4 new Winchesters and 3 new Henry's

Really nice group of 1911's you have there. ;)

Thanks all!

I have 3 Henrys as well, all in .22LR. They are great great little rifles and a great value IMO. I like them so much that after getting them I emailed the company to tell them how much I enjoyed their product. I receied a email back from the president thanking me and a week latter I receied 2 free Henry coffee mugs in the mail! Great company!

Actually, it was Mr Imperato that helped me get my Deluxe Engraved Big Boy .45LC when the distributors were not releasing them to the stores. He made a call and my order was taken a half hour later. I agree, a great American Company, not unlike COLT.

How does the Agent compare to the Defender with regard to hammer bite?

Sarcastic pun:

"What we have here is a failure to communicate." Legendary quote from the movie "Small Hand Luke" starring P.Newman. Might have been Strother Martin who said that.
