Anyone know if lead will build up in the rifling in the Springfield XD40? I have been told that, like the Glock and Beretta, one should shoot only jacketed ammo through the XD40. But then again, I have heard that lead will not be any problem with this gun. Any suggestions?

The XD has conventional rifling & a supported chamber, and lead is OK so long as you clean the deposits out regularly like you would on any other gun. I checked with Springfield on this before I bought one.

Do not lead up the barrel on any auto-pistol and start shooting hot jacketed loads immediately thereafter. If you're going to shoot lead, commit to scrubbing it out when you're done shooting.

Sarge, thanks for the info. Makes sense. I've shot some 100 or so rounds of jacketed but will start with lead and stick to it. I do some reloading and will use lead.
