Please help!
I have used about 600 WWB and Blazer 230grn FMJ rounds thru my bone stock PT1911, with no problems. But problems have emerged since I have begun to reload the 45acp.
The load is a 230 lead RNN, on range pick up brass, using a Lee deluxe die set. OAL is on the money. I have made to different batches, one at 750 fps, another at 800 fps.
When using this load, about every 5 shots, my PT 1911 will stop functioning, with the slide properly locked back via the slide stop(which is about 1/3 to ½ of the way engaged. A cartridge may be out of the mag 1/3 of the way.
I have detailed cleaned and lubed the PT1911, with no real improvement. As I had been using the stock mags, I tried a friends McCormick mags with my loads, with no improvement. I then used this friends SWC handloads in my mags, in my PT1911, it functioned perfectly. Tried this same friends own PT1911 with his mags and ammo, I shot it fine. Another friend tried my loads in his stock stainless Springfield GI with no problems.
Any idea what is happening? One person said some Commanders had this problem, and suggested drilling a small hole in the slide release lever to allow the pin to catch, and hold the slide release secure.
