How long has Colt been using MIM?

Would my Colt 1911 made in 1989-90 have any?

I had read here previously that they've been using mim since the mid 90's. I'd say your pistol is likely mim free.

I may be wrong, but, I think Colt was the first major gun company to use MIM. If your gun has MIM, I wouldn't worry about it after this many years.

MIM parts and the cut-out that makes a full-frame rail not a full-frame rail did cause me concern for a while.
When I was ignorant of them they caused me zero problems;now that I am aware of them I choose to not think of them as a problem.

They used it from the late 90s up to today, they tried it with the extractors and went back to bar stock for them.
Today's Colt's have a MIM sear and disconnector.

Remember if MIM is done well it can be very good. I think Colt has done it well most of the time, or bought MIM parts that were done well.
