View Full Version : WWI Reissue

Ruggles

Simple problem I have. I can get one the WWI reissues locally for $1150. Is that too much in everyone's view on this? I know I can find one online lower but with the FFL transfer and shipping I wonder if the local price is at least in the bar park.

Thanks in advance for you input.

Look at old posts on this and is it OTD (Out The Door) or asking price. I did see on three weeks ago for $1039, but there was local tax on that to the tune of 7%.

I did look at the older post, I guess I was trying to talk myself out of getting it at that price. That is just the base price, tax not included :(

Tax locally is 8.25%, we have no state income tax so our sales tax is high. I think I will just hold off for now.....

This place is not known for thier low prices sadly although their selection is second to none......

Thanks for the input.....

$1150 (Local gunstore price) - $892 (Bud's Gun Shop price) = $258 (Give that to your wife)*

I know where there is one right here on the forum ;) ;) ;) Check out the "for sale" forum and you'll find one for $965, shipping included, NIB, 100%, etc....
By the time you pay tax and shipping to Bud's (at $892) you'll be over the asking price of $965 INCLUDING shipping!!!

Buds has them on their website for $893. The last one I saw on the shelf was less than $1000. Even with shipping and a transfer fee $1100 seems high.

They are only going to get higher priced anyway, might as well get one now if you can.

Most guns I see here are over priced compared to what is seen on the net but as already stated, after shipping and transfer fees it's usually the same. Unless it's a huge savings, like Buds has, it's just easier to buy locally. Wish I could make $40 - $70 dollars for 15 to 20 minutes of paper work...

A few years down the road you may feel silly about what I see as $200 difference in price. (?) Who knows what's going to happen in the future of Colts? If it's NIB,you know want/NEED it,"throw them 2 extra Benjies down!" and bring it on home. It's good for the economy.

I like to buy locally if possible;and hold in-hand what I'm about to purchase. Don't always get to do what I like....

Eli, I'm sorry to tell you this. My intention is not to upset you...I promise. However, unless Ruggles is in Kentucky he will not have to pay tax. Shipping is $20.00 and typical ffl fees are $20.00. Which would mean he can get the WWI repro from Buds for 932.00 in his hands. In order to match they're offer exactly you would have to let him have the pistol shipped for $912.00 so that after he pays his ffl fees the price is the same to him. I'm sorry bro but little guys can't really compete with wholesale dealers like Buds and AJC's.

Plus according to Colt's warranty information Ruggles wouldn not be entitled to the thw warranty of your Colt because he would be the second owner but he would have the lifetime warranty if he bought the one at bud's. That is something else you might need to counter. Again I'm sorry but supply and demand is really biting you in the rump on this right now.

Here is the service agreement right off Colt's website.

Good luck my friend,

Would you really want to have to deal with the ATF dropping in whenever they want looking over your files to make sure every "t" is crossed and every "i" is dotted? The $20 to $70 they charge is really for the hassle that they will have to put up with from the government and a few dollars for their time and the fact they have an FFL that allows them to do the transfer.

I don't think that there is one FFL still in the City of Chicago, the city did everything they could to put them all out of the city limits. Just another reason why they charge so much, local hassles, also.

Justin, well, thanks for the info compadre. I'm not upset in the least; facts are facts, and i just as soon have everything be "above the table" ;) . Since posting yesterday the gun has sold. Lucky for me cuz i needed the money. I lost well over a hundred clams on the sale. I certainly wasn't trying to make any money (you'll find no-one trying to compete with the likes of Bud's here!). Oh well, i'll buy another after some long-needed home-repairs are complete. Got the roof finished today...too bad there's no forum for "home repair pics" ;) I got plenty of them...runnin' low on gun photo's though!!
To tell you the truth, as beautiful as the Repro is, and as much as i'd love to keep this one (to hand down to grandkid's etc.), i'd rather own a couple Commanders and OACP's. Atleast i'd shoot those (and use 'em for my primary purpose: CC). My next purchase will be an Officer (or maybe a NA).
Anyhow, i'll buy another when the money tables are turned.
Regards folks...

The price is high but it depends on what you're willing to pay. I think retail is or was $990 on that model. If you have a dealer that will do the transfers for you without charging an arm and/or leg Buds is a good place to buy from.

One of the best lines from my college Shakespeare class (I was an art and English double-major) came from the play, I believe, "Henry the VI": Tom, one of Prince Hal's ruffian buddies, contemplating Hal becoming king, in a barroom said, "First thing we do is kill all the lawyers." Having had experience with a lawsuit against my employer, Texas Department of Transportation, in which I was a pawn, and I quoted this to the danged Attorney General's second "representative (which she did not find humorous, and I didn't CARE)", I can see the sentiment: that was from 1601 in England. There you go.

I'm trying to figure for y'all the total cost on my O1911 Repro. $899.00, I don't remember the tax, it's like 7.125% in Texas between counties, about $30.00 for shipping, and $43.30 for my FFL's transfer fee.. let's see... that's about $1036 plus some change. Worth it? YES. Because...

It's rare and a very GOOD pistol, with personality and a history. A dealer LIST of $1100.00 might be a bit high RIGHT NOW. But, that's roughly what I paid by the time the BEAUTY got in my hands. It is a WONDERFUL piece of work. I love mine. LOVE it. I love the original M1911, and it IS that. No one can tell another what a thing is worth to them; that is THEIR decision. Mine HURT my finances. But I have now forgotten that, as this is an excellent Colt's custom shop pistol. I hope this is of some value. And no offense to the lawyers among us gun lovers: y'all here are different, a better breed...

Mick, that is pretty good and some say you don't get anything useful from college. However, it looks like you did; huh? If you hadn't been an english major you probably wouldn't have been able to fire off at that lawyer such as you did. Good job! ;)

Good clean fun: some lawywers are fine and honest. Our AGs at that time... well, the subordinates were pawns in a game the management was playing with a former disgruntled employee... that second "assistant" was a rather arrogant thing, and we'd been lied to by the AG in general; but, I was simply trying to further her lacking in the liberal arts from her pre-law and law school days, having attended one of the best pre-law colleges in Texas, I just wanted to... help her... NOT! HAH! :D

AGREE that WISDOM is the priceless thing. Believe me, I've seen many, many educated folks, that don't have a lick of sense. I can be dense at times, but, darn... I'm talking not one lick of sense. I don't think most institutions of higher education are trying to impart wisdom and common-sense, "life skills" I reckon you call them, anymore, despite any recruiting claims. Shoot, if they were, they'd offer shooting as a Physical Education choice, and historical values. My dad exposed me to firearms as a child and teen, but didn't push; and I didn't have much interest until after college... dang. My mistake. I've never found a place like this where the whole world comes together, sharing a devout interest in a very historical firearm and all its many variants, and where we get along and share information and learn so freely, and I mean FREELY. While a bit off topic (was this lawyers, or WWI Reissue??? Just kidding!), I'm so thankful not only to John C. but all you folks who have taught me so much about not only the 1911 in general, and specific brands and models, but ALSO HELPED ME FIND MY O1911 at a reasonable price!!!

And I didn't even need a lawyer to buy it. Yet, anyways...

Not in the least! It's all about "important pieces of paper", and moving on to the next stage. While I have learned some useful information in my "ten year" program in College, the vast majority of the (limited) wisdom i have came from experience outside of institutionary walls.

... not a "lowest-common-denominator" gun. One of the frequent posters here has a link to this as a signature, but I don't have the URL:

"Of course the 1911 is an outdated design.
It came from an era when weapons were designed to win fights, not to avoid product liability lawsuits. It came from an era where it was the norm to learn how your weapon operated and to practice that operation until it became second nature, not to design the piece to the lowest common denominator.
It came from an era in which our country tried to supply its fighting men with the best tools possible, unlike today, when our fighting men and women are issued hardware that was adopted because of international deal-making, or the fact that the factory is in some well-connected congressman's district.
Yes, beyond any shadow of a doubt, the 1911 IS an outdated design.... and that's exactly what I love about it."
Rosco S. Benson

It's single action: best defensive carry is loaded and locked, Condition 1, and that sure makes folks uncomfortable if they SEE it, regardless of it being entirely safe if the pistol's in good mechanical shape. It AIN'T gonna "fire itself". NO firing pin blocks, loaded chamber indicators, ILS, tiny firing pins with heavier fp springs, just the basic M1911 like JMB designed it, and that is what the O1911 WWI Repro/Reissue IS: If a person has a mind, and learns their pistol, it is SAFE. Personal responsibility, no litigation, no lawyers, no government "oversight": PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. This ORIGINAL M1911, having one, is the reason I literally PANTED for the WWI Reissue. Not an idiot gun, but, I know how to carry and handle and shoot a danged gun. Lots of folks nowadays in my country don't. I don't reckon the WWI is for everyone: some folks prob have NO BUSINESS having one. Or maybe ANY firearm. But for me, and a LOT of us, the M1911 WORKS. We're safe with it. To me the best danged defensive pistol ever designed and made. Period.

No lawyers necessary, no legislation or interference necessary, for me to "protect myself from myself": I can handle it. I don't need protection from myself. The only folks who need protection from ME are criminals acting against me in my space, and I don't have a desire to play "Wild West" and harm them--just get them to go away, and then re-think their path in life. Everybody else is safe to a T. Hah! Even though I DO carry a 1911 in .45 usually in public, concealed. There you go.

... you've got an original M1911 or M1911A1. It's where I verified my First Lady's authenticity. Extensive. Another is ProofHouse.Com.

Dang, I SO wish--and even as an owner of one of the limited-edition O1911 WWI Reproductions--Colt's would make it a production gun, maybe with the Colt's blued finish as on my O1991, a beautiful bluing there. They could, I think, sell 'em. Some folks, and I respect this, wouldn't like it; but I didn't buy mine for an investment or for resale: I bought her to have and to shoot. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I had the funds. They are VERY good pistols. Not for everyone; but as a defensive, plinking, casual range gun, and qualifying for a CHL or as a CCW? Danged excellent. Period. I LOVE mine.
