No... not mine... but I didn't know this one had been released yet...

Talo's Limited Edition 1911A1 Government Sovereign...

http://www.galleryofguns.com/prod_images/O1980XSEDMB.jpg

Davidson's site says just 300 made... MSRP is $1701.50, Model O1980XSEDMB and she is simpy beautiful.

So... does Colt's Custom Shop do all this fancy work on the slide... or is such contracted out?

I saw one of those at a shop in Scottsdale last week. They are nice looking.

Thanks, AZ... and yes it is a beautiful Colt. I cannot fault someone's desire to own it (myself included)... but for the same money, one could buy a WWI repro M1911 and perhaps have almost enough remaining for a Series 70 reissue! Or... the WWI repro and one of those pretty Commanders like yours!!! ;)

Personally i'd rather own a WWI repro and a Commander too, but must say that is one unique and slick lookin' Colt. I like the gold engraving, especially the "square-ish" part behind properly aligned serrations. I kinda' like the grips too....
Nice gun!

Nice looking Colt..............too nice looking, I'd feel guilty just a 'lil bit when I took it out for it's range session.

Range session???

Oh no... never could I do that to her. Safe queen... locked away, and only coming out when I had on a pair of those white gloves like the History Channel's Dr. William Atwater wears on those gun shows... ;)

Talo is the company that does the engraving.
They get the pistol from Colt and do their thing to it. Talo has many different engraved pistols.

One of my distributors had these at $1,195 dealer cost for a good while. I just checked, and they show "out of stock" now. I sure like those grips! Don't know about the gold grip screws, though. But if I had it, I'd shoot it!

It took me decades to shoot my precious lil' Gold Cup;but I'm glad I did and am shooting it.

Probly be more decades before I holster it.

Only one left in my little arsenal that has yet to be fired post-factory;but it is a rifle(pre-64 Winchester Mod.70). It has the red&black plaid box and original bolt tag. I have worked the bolt a few times(3).

I hear an artistic admiration in your description of this particular gun that may preclude thoughts of actually firing it. The most "high-art" custom knives I have will never know actual use for their intended purpose. I leave room for "never is a loong time".

Beauty of a Colt!

My two cents worth. Doing that to a defenseless weapon is like buying a new car with classic lines, taking it home, and bolting onto it any random piece of junk with an automotive theme you find in your garage. The car will still run but it becomes a visual embarrassment.

Ever saw a woman who looks like "she fell asleep in the plastic surgeon's chair", in other words too much of too much? That is what this weapon reminds me of, a curosity like looking at a car wreck but not something you want to be involved with. Seems however they forgot the skateboard tape on the frame.

Thank you for not showing the other side of the weapon.

I think I owe Talos an apology. After my previous post I went back and looked at the picture again. I know, I know, even though we shake our head at the woman who has too much of too much, we still look. I have found a redeeming value in the weapon. With the huge prancing ponies on the grips and frame this thing was perhaps designed for the visually impaired. They can feel those huge... uh sorry, ... prominent ponies and know it is a genuine Colt.

I look forward to their theme pistol based on a Rock Island Armory with tactile geologic formations glued to the slide and frame on one side and an outline of Manhattan on the other side.

How about a Springfield themed pistol with . . . . hmmm, might need a 6 inch slide.

BOB!! let us know how you really Feel!! LOL Parts of the gun appeal to the eye but I'm afraid if I pulled it on a burglar they might start laughing. :D

Sorry, doesn't do a thing for me. Also, I would expect a fitted beavertail and Novak sights for that kind of money.

Hi

The thing I like about the Talos process is that they put a pretty rugged finish on the pistol. It's a lot more likely to make it through a range session than a pistol done up with a lot of gold.

That said, I have one pistol already that's "to pretty to shoot". That's at least one to many for my wallet.

LOL... Bob, you got lucky... Davidson's site only showed one side of this "gussied up" Colt. :p

With comments decidely running more "con" than "pro"... perhaps I should have used something like "Trailer Trash Colt" in the title bar??? ;)

It is kind of a confusing pistol to me...

XSE bottom end with undercut trigger guard, 3 hole trigger and XSE style hammer but with a slide with vertical cocking serrations. Hard to tell but it looks like the recoil plug is XSE FLGR material. It is like the slide does not go to the pistol.

It also looks like Lew Horton has a rather similar stainless one.

Speaking of Lew Horton they have a couple that are cool.

I wonder if Colt does these for Lew?

The Hi polish Super 38 retails for $1999.00 and the 1991 Scroll list for $999.00

Hi

Does the serial number start with Lew's initials?

I'm betting that they do.
